The Washington Cares Long Term Care payroll tax begins January2022
Here are some things you need to know:
- Long Term Care is not the same as Long Term Disability (LTC is not LTD)
- SEBB is not going to be offering an alternative to the state program
- The payroll tax is mandatory unless you file for an exemption. If you opt out you cannot opt back in.
- Exemptions require you purchase your own LTC policy by November 1, 2021

New mask guidance for staff (sent via email 7/15/2021)
New guidance has been released by the Washington State Department of Health. They have updated their COVID-19 mask requirements for this summer.
The new guidance for masking indoors:
"All school personnel, volunteers, visitors, and students must wear cloth face coverings or an acceptable alternative (e.g., surgical mask) at school when indoors regardless of vaccination status. Fully vaccinated staff must wear facial coverings indoors if children under the age of 18 are present, but they do not need to wear facial coverings indoors if no children are present and vaccination status has been verified. A person is considered fully vaccinated if it has been two weeks since their final dose of a two-dose series vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna) or two weeks since receiving a one-dose vaccine (J&J/Janssen). Any person who chooses to wear a mask should be supported in doing so."
If you are working in a location where no children are present, you are fully vaccinated, and you would prefer not to wear a mask; please fill out the attestation form below to confirm your vaccination status:

Board Briefs – July 8, 2021
Policy News
The Board adopted revised Policy 3432, Emergencies, as presented by School Support and Safety Supervisor Patty Glaser. Please be sure to take the time to review this new version of Policy 3432.

Some of the new hires!
The Board's WIAA representative, Director Hurley, met recently with Amber Plummer who is scheduled to begin in late August as the new Bremerton High School Athletic Director. Ms. Monica Zuber attended the meeting for the first time in her new position as Director of Secondary Education, and Dr. Leavell introduced Ms. Cynthia Cantwell, recently hired as Assistant Director, Assessment and Data Literacy.
The Board passed Resolution 2020/2021-21 as recommended by Human Resources. This resolution (Compensation and Benefits for Exempt and Non-Represented Staff and Administrators) is required to acknowledge that the District will be working with exempt and non-represented employees after collective bargaining has been completed with all of the bargaining groups. The resolution will allow the District to request these adjustments in the fall and permit them to be retroactive to the beginning of the appropriate contract year.
As usual, July holds short meetings. The Board is happily anticipating being able to meet in person again beginning in August or September.
