What is FAME?
RRMS Winter Visual and Performing Arts Showcase - December 14th 5PM
The Winter Art Showcase is set for December 14th from 5:30PM-7PM. Students in the Visual Arts program (2D, 3D, & Creative Photography) will be responsible for setting up the art show and presenting works they created throughout the 1st semester. This hands-on experience gives students an understanding of the role of a curator. Students will arrange displays of artwork and help to interpret the collection in order to inform, educate and inspire the public audience. The RRMS Dance Team will be making an exciting appearance, performing precision dance for visitors and the RRMS Thespians will also be entertaining the crowds with sing-alongs and karaoke. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served and provided by RRMS. Following the Art Showcase, the Guitar, Band and Chorus will be performing in the theater at 7PM. You do not want to miss this exciting and collaborative event by RRMS FAME Academy!

FAME Theatre Department News: Thespians & Theatre Courses (Mr. Grosso)
The River Ridge Middle School Drama Department has been hard at work this year, we certainly hit the ground running! We have been working hard on our two one act plays; our thespian competition play All I Really Need to Know I Learned by Being in a Bad Play and our hauntingly fun Fall piece Once Upon A Broomstick. Also our 30+ individual events for thespian competition ranging from costume design to improv to large group musical to monologue and more!
Our thespians of troupe 88135 “dunked” on the competition being praised for how professional and collaborative our troupe was being the whole time! We are so proud of all of our thespians and can’t wait to take the majority of our students who participated in Districts to State Festival in January in Orlando! Break a leg!!
Scores range from Poor-Fair-Good-Excellent-Superior
Best in District means the student(s) received the highest score in the district and will represent that piece at state competition.
Critic’s Choice means the student(s) had the highest score in the district and was being considered to represent for the entire district at the state level.
Top Honors means the student(s) received the highest score in the district, but tied with another troupe and the other troupe’s piece was chosen as critic’s choice.

Theatre Class News
Our Drama students have also been exploring several theatrical avenues in classes, the breakdown of what we have learned so far is as follows:
We are so proud of our thespians here at RRMS! Stay tuned for more news on future projects including the announcement of our spring musical!

Introduction to Technical Theatre
Theatre 2
Visual Arts: 2D and Current Projects (Mrs. Lightbody)
In the exploring 2D class and the Advanced studio option, emphasis is placed on 2 dimensional art and offers students the opportunity to study various media. In class students thus far have worked with watercolor, colored pencil, charcoal & chalk, pen & ink, and most recently oil pastel. Instruction in the studio class process focuses on creativity, craftmanship, application/techniques, understanding design principles, and safety.
We are currently working on blending techniques and oil pastel application. Students have explored setting up and drawing a still life. They must pay close attention to highlights and shadows, to accurately depict form. In Exploring 2D Art, students have learned about the artist Wayne Thiebaugh and have begun sketching and planning their final still life composition based on their favorite dessert. The 2D studio art class is currently learning about Georgia O’Keefe and will be pulling their inspiration from the artist and nature for their oil pastel drawings.

Visual Arts: 2D Studio Year long (Ms. Berberich)
Mediums and techniques have been the focus for the past quarter. They have used oil pastels, watercolors, and acrylic. We are also going to be exploring 2D techniques on Clay when we create tiles. Students have learned color theory and acrylic painting techniques through large cactus paintings. This class, unlike the semester 2D class, goes more in-depth with the techniques, applications, and mediums.
Visual Arts: Creative Photography Course (Mrs. Lightbody)
Digital Photography is a yearlong introduction to the digital camera as an art-making tool designed for students at the beginning level. The course will use digital photography to help students learn and apply the basic elements of art and the principles of design. Cellphone photography and editing with a variety of phone applications is infused in the curriculum. This course will also provide students with opportunities to extend their knowledge and skills in the field of photography and the use of Adobe Lightroom and Photopea.
Coming Soon… Series of Photographs
Students become familiar with an inspirational photographer and the photographer’s genre of photography. Student will be creating a presentation on the photographer, while photographing their own images in that genre to create a series of photographs (10-15 photographs). Students learn that a theme running through the many works unifies it as a collection. The theme is stated and restated in different yet interconnected ways, and the viewer can look at the collection and understand more easily what the artist is trying to convey.

Visual Arts - Exploring 3D (Ms. Berberich)
Yearlong Course: The students in 3D Studio Art have also been building and creating art using different materials and mediums. They have used paper, clay, cardboard, and glass bottles. They have learned about different artists, painting techniques, color theory, and sculpting techniques. 3D art develops problem solving, research, and technical skills. This class, unlike the semester 3D class, goes more in-depth with the techniques and mediums. We explore student’s interest within the lessons.
