Las Positas Updates
9/22/23 Volume 3 (8)
Happy Friday!
What our learners eat matters.
The food they eat not only provide nutritional values to help our learners grow big and strong, it also provides the compounds that help our student brains function well. However, if our learners do not have a balanced meal, it upsets their energy level, including their brain activities.
We've noticed more students bringing junk food and unhealthy food/drinks. Please, do not drop off fast food or pack junk food (chocolate, candy, etc.) for lunch. Instead, pack protein, fruits, crackers, and healthier snacks. Here's Back to School Kids Lunch Ideas.
Do not send any energy drinks or sodas. Here is an article about one of the Prime Energy drinks: Warning over Prime energy drinks after primary school child has stomach pumped. Prime Energy drink is not recommended for children under the age of 18. Yes, there is a hydration version and not the energy version, but in order to help us monitor this and keep our students safe, we ask you not to send any Prime drinks, energy drinks, soda, etc.. Instead, fill up their water bottles to keep them hydrated and strong.
We have nutrition classes, where you can learn more on October 3rd.
Thank you for helping us keep our learners safe.
We continue to focus on the IB Learner Profile "Communicator"
The IB Learner profile aims to develop students who are communicators. Students who are communicators understand and express ideas and information confidently and creatively in more than one language and in a variety of modes of communication. They work effectively and willingly in collaboration with others.
Have a great weekend ~
Being a Communicator
Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month
"During National Hispanic Heritage Month, from September 15 – October 15, the U.S. government celebrates the countless contributions of more than 60 million Hispanic Americans, Latinos, Latinas, and Latinx-identifying people to our culture and society. Hispanic Americans are the largest minority group in the United States today, and generations of Hispanic Americans have consistently helped make our country strong and prosperous. They contribute to our Nation beyond description. Hispanic Americans embody the best of our American values, including commitment to faith, family, and country. The Hispanic-American community has left an indelible mark on our government, culture, and economy." (US Dept of State)
