Mrs. Iseler's K.E.S. Principal Post
FEBRUARY 2023
Message-
We have kicked off our 15 day challenge for 5000 acts of kindness that Brian Williams kicked off for us on January 18th! Brian shared a great message with us about how kindness are an integral part of bully-prevention. What we pay attention to and recognize is important. We want to act, recognize and inspire great acts of kindness to change the world! His message reflected the ripple impact of a small kindnesses into a culture of kindness with huge impacts. Don't take my word for it though-check out the kids video they made with Brian! Thank you to the parents that attended our parent evening. The overwhelming response from families, staff and board members was a great energy and repurpose to make the world a better place through small acts with ripples. It was inspiring. Want to learn more about Brian William's Think Kindness organization: https://thinkkindness.org/.
In February we there are some great fun events coming up: celebrating 100th day of school on an assembly day, wrapping up of our Kindness Challenge, creating blankets with our Bomber pride crew (see PBIS newsletter below for details), and Parent/Teacher Conferences on February 14th and 16th. Lots of great heart is shining through at Kohler Elementary - thanks for all you do to support that.

Attendance-why it matters and school's responsiblities
First of all a shout out to all the students, families and teachers working on make-up work following any absences. As you know, our students are productive learners and so having them at school is critical to their success. Research indicates that if students miss a total of 10 days for any reason during an academic year, they are considered at risk for significant learning gaps that are difficult to make up. Please know we understand illnesses and vacations occur, but state law and best practices in education require schools to notify parents directly if they miss more than 10 days due to those risks for learning. Legally all parents receive a letter if their child has missed more than 10 days. I have received this letter due to an excessive vacation and it felt punitive from a parent lens. However, I know that is required and attendance matters for learning. We care about the children and want the best for them, just like you do.
When children are absent or have an appointment, please notify the office by contacting Ms. Fischer at fischere@kohler.k12.wi.us or 920-459-2920 (Follow the prompts to the elementary attendance mailbox.) When calling in, please state: date/time of absence or appointment time, reason for absence (Ex: Illness, doctor/dental appointment, vacation.
PBIS Focus February = Kohler RULES our SCHOOL!
Please check out our PBIS NEWSLETTER for details! There is some great info in this. Thank you to Mrs. Cornielsen for putting together all this great info!
In February we will be introducing a new them on Tuesday Feb 7th at assembly. It's also the 100th day of school and PBIS at Kohler RULES! And that is our theme for the month:
- R: RESPECT
- U: UNDERSTANDING
- L: LISTENERS (first time listeners!)
- E: EMPATHY
- S: in SCHOOL
These RULES are part of the Kohler way and make us successful citizens and learners in our community. Staff will focus on recognizing the RULES with Bomber Bucks this next month. Check out a sneak peak of our assembly with some great photos of kids doing amazing things! #Kohlerpride
Testing season is coming up
As we enter February, many of us are anxiously awaiting spring and planning for get-aways. State required testing including FORWARD occur in the spring. Any opt outs must be in writing/email to the office attention Mrs. Iseler. Please note opt outs are not encouraged and only 4th, 8th and 9-12th graders are eligible for opt outs. These tests provide information not only on student performance for the state and school, but also impact our state report card in areas of achievement and test participation. For elementary school, FORWARD testing is in English Language Arts and Math 3-5, with grades 4 also testing in science and social studies. The testing window falls from March 20th-April 28th. We are looking at testing the 3 weeks following spring break. Please reach out with any questions.
