SEPTEMBER 2019
FALL 2019
PRESIDENT
Happy September! I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and the school year is off to a great start. Speaking of great starts … Did you know that our Integrity Chapter has already service over XXX hours between the months of May and August? And, have you looked at the calendar and seen the hard work and planning that has taken place specifically by the Philanthropy, Boys and Moms committees? Calendars are set, meetings are organized, and philanthropy opportunities are waiting for you and your son to enjoy. I personally think we’re off to a great start and couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come this year. Speaking of, make note if you haven’t already, that our first Mom’s meeting is September 18th with grade-level Boy’s meetings following soon thereafter on the 29th. I look forward to seeing you all soon!

Just a quick update from the moms' meeting committee:
Our first meeting is set for Wednesday, September 18. It will be held at the Wellington Amenities Center at 7 p.m. Erika Dietz with Guru Academic Advising will be our presenter. Learn more about Erika by visiting her website: guruacademicadvising.com. I think you'll find the information she provides to be super helpful.
If you haven't already, please visit the calendar to RSVP for this meeting. We'll be starting our new digital check-in process, so you'll need to have registered to check in. With that being said, please arrive a bit early as this is a new process for us all. See you then!

I hope your summer was memorable and you were able to serve a few hours on our wonderful philanthropies. Just a reminder you can now order yourself a service shirt from our Integrity website anytime. Just go to https://ymslintegrity.chapterweb.net then click on the "YMSL Store" tab on the far right and it will take you to the YMSL National website then on the left click on “Apparel-Women". The logo on the front says, “YMSL” using the new logo from National. You can order anytime and you can pick it up in Coppell or have it shipped right to your front door.
Your young men’s new shirts are in and you are more than welcome to text me for front porch pick-up if you want them now or you can pick them up at the Mom’s 1st meeting, September 18th. See you then!

PHILANTHROPY
I hope everyone had a safe and restful summer. Our chapter was busy with serving our philanthropies over summer break. I love to see the passion for service, I hope it continues throughout the year. From May 1, 2019 to the time of this writing our chapter has served 1296 hours. Thank you to our liaisons for facilitating the many service opportunities!
Unfortunately, some of our philanthropies had difficult summers which caused service events to be canceled. CCA at times had a lack of food donations so our service was not needed. Likewise, the North Texas Food Bank had a reduction in food available so therefore not as many shifts were available. We hope to see food donations increase in the next few months providing more opportunities for service. Lastly we recently received the news that the Boys and Girls Club would be closing all of their facilities in Denton County due to lack of funding. What devastating news for families that rely on their service.
We have had the pleasure of serving at some new philanthropies which I am receiving some positive feedback from those who served at those events. The Moms Meeting Committee and the Boys Meeting Committee are working on some exciting events to share our philanthropic experiences with each other. It should be a great learning experience for all. Our Ultimate Gift Committee is busy getting the details of our Ultimate Gift planned for a successful service project.
Just a reminder-please take a picture at your service opportunity and post it to our Facebook Group. If you are not using Facebook please text it to the YMSL liaison for that philanthropy. Also if a philanthropy asks our group to stay longer than the scheduled time you may log the time you stayed. For example if our service was scheduled for 2 hours and the philanthropy asks you to stay and it takes you an additional hour to finish-you may log 3 hours. Please put that in the comment section of the calendar where you log hours and let your YMSL liaison know.
Have a great Fall and we appreciate your service!
FRESHMAN – The class of 2023 will have their first meeting on September 29th from 6:00-7:30pm at the Shiloh Fire Station where our guest speaker will demonstrate CPR and talk about personal safety with the boys.
Our October meeting will be held in Lewisville where we will observe Teen Court. (Judges, juries and sentences) Please see calendar on our YMSL website for specifics on meeting time, attire for court, and information on carpooling.
The November philanthropy meeting is in the works. We are planning on having a representative from 3 of our philanthropies come share a little background as well as how our service impacts their operations. We will also have a Q&A for any questions the boys may have. We are excited and full of great energy; a wonderful way to begin our YMSL adventure!
SOPHOMORES - The class as of 2022 has several exciting things planned for the fall. Our September meeting will be on the 29th at Prairie Trail Elementary from 6:00-7:30pm. We will be learning how to change a tire, as well as, how to check the tire pressure and oil in our cars.
When we meet in October, we will hold a mock city council meeting where we will debate Flower Mound's teen curfew. Then, we will have a rock painting party where the guys will paint rocks with encouraging messages or fun images to "hide" at their next philanthropy event. We are looking forward to a great year of learning and serving our local community! Locations and times will be updated on calendar.
JUNIORS- The class of 2021 will be meeting on September 29, October 27 and November 17. These dates are subject to change as we secure speakers and meeting space. All will be solidified soon!
For our September meeting, we will be listening to a presentation about budgeting and managing money. In October, our subject will be poverty close to home. Our November meeting will be focused around serving a philanthropy with details to come soon! We are looking forward to another wonderful YMSL season with this amazing group!!
SENIORS – For the class of 2020, we are working on some great meetings for your final YMSL year. First up, on September 29th we will meet at Central Market in Southlake. You will be participating in a cooking class which starts at 4:00pm so we are asking you to be there by 3:45pm. We'll have the meeting after the cooking class somewhere on Central Market's property (hopefully in the little cafe) and you'll be finished by 5:30pm.
Our other fall meetings are planned for October 27th and November 17th. We're still working on the details of these meetings so stay tuned for emails and texts from our communications team. There is a chance the October and November meeting dates could change as all details are not finalized, but we will notify you of that well in advance for your planning purposes.
We're looking forward to a fabulous year!

PARLIMENTARIAN
Hello YMSL Integrity Members!
I hope all of you and your sons have had a great start to the new school year! Most of you have already begun serving at philanthropies and logging hours while others have RSVP’d for upcoming events and / or are ready to start serving. In all cases, THANK YOU for all you have done and will do to serve others in our community and to raise responsible and compassionate young men! I also want to add my thanks for adjusting so well to our new logging system. It seems most have been able to successfully navigate through it - but please do not hesitate to email any of us on the Hours Committee and ask for help if you get stuck. Additionally, there is a step-by-step video on how to log hours on the website. You will find this under the training tab.
Just so that we are all aware of deadlines that have been set for us by Nationals, I have added the chart below for all to review. If you have ANY concerns about service and/or meeting requirements or your ability to meet them, please let us know. Your communication with our Hours Committee and with the Philanthropy Committee will go along way in helping you, your son and our Integrity Chapter be successful!
And as a reminder, it is the job of the Hours Committee to review members’ and young mens’ hours. So, if we see something of concern or that needs editing, etc. we will be reaching out to you by email to help inform you, problem solve, make adjustments, etc.
And last…for those who are eager, inspired and motivated to go above and beyond what is required, there are awards given out at the end of the year banquet that honor extraordinary service. Please see the Awards list and descriptions for related information.
Hope to see you all at the September Mom’s Meeting and thank you again for your service!
