Lessons for Launching a Movement
Inspired by ADE2015 and Jason Hall of SlowRoll

Apple Distinguished Educator Institute 2015
One of the highlights of #ADE2015 was learning from Jason Hall, co-founder of SlowRoll Detroit. HIs message truly transcended the entire week and can be remembered as we all move our stories forward into action. The following are just a few of the lessons for launching a movement that we learned at ADE 2015 in Miami.
Gather a few friends - start with those close to you
Collectively create a code of conduct
Creativity is an important ingredient - Campaign for your cause
Share local stories - explore and experience your community
Be consistent - Ride rain or shine
Remember there is honor in finishing last- “Make sure everyone comes home”
Make it a collective effort - Partner with community needs
Do everything through personal interaction
Each one. Teach one. - Remember a greater purpose
Try to affect people— not just by talking, but by doing
Surround yourself with a squad. Team is everything.
Don’t stop— expand to other locations, alternative audiences
People want to be led. Rise to the occasion.
Whatever you want to do… Do it! Start your own ride. All you need is the power to get out there.
Thank you.
A never-ending appreciation exists for the Apple Distinguished Educator program for empowering each of us to be change agents across the globe, launching movements that change lives.
Sincerely,
Katie Morrow, ADE 2007
