WELCOME TO LEAMAN JR HIGH
- Doors open at 7:30am
A note from Mr. Semmler
1) Schedule Change Requests: You have until Friday, August 26th @ 4:00 PM to e-mail one of your counselors that you are REQUESTING a schedule change. We then use the following week to do our final adjustments so our schedule is locked in for the semester by Friday, September 2nd, 2022. If you miss that deadline, then the only way to change your schedule is to meet with the teacher and the administrator first and go through a process of working together to resolve any issues that arise. The counselor's contact information is below.
- Kevin Kracker (Alpha-Split A-G)
- Torey Gilmore (Alpha-Split H-O)
- LaToya Session (Alpha-Split P-Z)
2) Physicals and staying in Major Sports - Friday, August 26th is the last day to turn in physical information for Boy's Athletics. Wednesday, August 31st is the last day to turn in physical information for Girl's Athletics. If you have any questions, please contact our coordinators below:
- David Perez - Boys Athletic Coordinator (david.perez@lcisd.org)
- Nicole Smith - Girls Athletic Coordinator (nsmith@lcisd.org)
3) SMART Tag Rollout - Each student will be receiving a brand new SMART tag with their photo on it, along with a barcode for getting food at lunch, a book in the cafeteria, or getting on a bus. We will be asking students to wear these ID's every day all day long. If the ID is lost, we are asking parents to purchase another one for $5, so please talk to your child about the importance of taking good care of their tag. If you have any questions, please e-mail me.
4) Afternoon Dismissal - We will be asking the students to stay close to the front door at dismissal. How does this help? When parents pull all the way to the #1 spot at the end of the walkway in the front, then everyone can pull up way further. Please don't try to pass each other, but just be patient. Staff are out there to help keep the cars moving and keep the kids contained to one area so they aren't getting in cars all over the property. Although picking your kids up in other areas is helpful to you, it slows down the entire system when we are not consistent. Be patient. The plan will work and the afternoon dismissal time will shrink more and more each day.
5) Traffic - I am embedding 4 maps into this e-mail blast to help communicate how traffic is expected to run. Map #1 - Morning Dropoff Map is a map of Leaman Junior High for MORNING DISMISSAL. You have 3 different rows to pull down and drop off your children to save time. You do not need to go in the largest loop only. Map #2 - Afternoon Dismissal Map is a detailed map of AFTERNOON DISMISSAL. Notice that nobody can come through the side gate while our cars are leaving other than a bus. We will have security at the gate to stop people from going to the back of the school. Also, notice that we need everyone to stay in one large loop, or park in the outer lot and wait. That way, we can keep the line moving quickly and hopefully have everyone out of here by 4:00 PM. Map #3 - Afternoon Dismissal with Flow to Surrounding Areas is a map showing you that we encourage all cars to exit to the NORTH of our property and avoid coming back down the road to the light. You will get back to FM 1093 quicker doing this than coming back down Charger Way.
6) Dress Code Guidance - (https://youtu.be/tL0sHHFyTxI) This video was created by Mr. Semmler along with some of our student actors from last year and gives guidance for parents and students on how to dress at school to avoid getting into any trouble. Although it says "Once this video is played, there are no warnings", we do give warnings on the first day or two of school. But, if you can watch this video with your child prior to the first day, our dress code will be way more consistent across the campus and we can focus on learning on the first day. If you have ANY dress code questions, please contact your grade level Assistant Principal. (Jimitra Granger - 7th Grade - jimitra.granger@lcisd.org) OR (Derek Getschow - 8th Grade - derek.getschow@lcisd.org).
7) Cell Phone/Headphone Policy Change - In an effort to increase your child's engagement with this school year, it has been decided by our Campus PBIS team and our Campus Leadership team that cell phones and headphones will not be allowed in the hallways. This change should promote student-to-student conversations, decrease tardiness, and reduce the misuse of social media. Students will be allowed to use their phones and headphones during lunches, but not in hallways, and not in classrooms unless teachers are using it for instruction.
8) PBIS Expectations & Rewards - PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports. One large piece is explaining expectations upfront. Another piece is rewarding students when we see those focused on positive behaviors. 3 campus-wide expectations posters (CLICK HERE) are placed throughout the campus. Teachers will take time during the first day or two to explain these rules in detail and help students understand what they look like. Our campus is also implementing new software (Classcraft) to encourage students to earn rewards and use them in many different ways. Here is a short video on how Classcraft works: https://youtu.be/M2uqd9ZOMaw. Please have your child download the app on their device and log into Classlink on the LCISD webpage (at the top) to start to explore what this is all about. They do NOT need a phone to do this. It can be done on a laptop or computer.
