COUNSELOR CORNER
Choice Sheet Deadline
Current O. Henry 6th and 7th grade students received their choice sheets for next year the week of Jan. 10th. The deadline to submit them was Friday, Jan. 20th. However we realized that the fast start made both students and ourselves a little forgetful.
We wanted to make sure you had a reminder before the deadline and have extended the deadline to Wed., Jan 25th. If you need a choice sheet, information about electives, or access to applications, please visit www.smore.com/ftmhc. Choice sheets can be returned to your child's ACES teacher or returned to the counseling office.
Credit by Exam
AISD offers Credit By Exam (CBE) for students who would like to earn credit for a course they have not yet taken. At this time, if any families are interested in having their child take a test to show mastery of a language, even though they are not currently enrolled in that language, please contact cristina.torres@austinisd.org.
The deadline to sign up is Friday, January 27th. We will need to discuss how the test works, fill out a form, and discuss how results affect high school credit and GPA. There is not a middle school language credit. This is only for earning high school credit in advance.
Algebra Drop Deadline
Friday, January 27th is the deadline to drop Algebra 1 so that the credit and grade do not show on your child's high school transcript. Once this deadline passes the grade will be transcripted at the end of the year.
Last week all Algebra students were sent home with a form for families to indicate whether to drop or keep the course. If you have concerns about your child's grade or would like to discuss further, please contact your child's Algebra teacher.

8th Grade- Austin High School Choice Sheet Information
Pony Express:
8th Grade Students here is your Austin High School Choice Sheet Information:
This week in your ACES classes you will be watching a video presentation regarding the Austin High School 9th grade Choice Sheet Information. The video presentation is below this message as well to preview. In your ACES class you will also be given a paper copy of the choice sheet you will fill out during ACES. Your Teachers will make a copy of this choice sheet you have filled out. Your teachers will return the paper choice sheet to you for your parents to look at and sign as well. The Austin High School Counselors will also be coming to O. Henry January 30th and 31st in your Science classes to go over the 9th Grade Choice Sheet Information . The High School Counselors on these days will be having you enter in your courses in the scheduling system these days as well. If you are not zoned for Austin High School, you can still fill out the paper choice sheet, but you may not be able to enter the courses in the scheduling system. But the Austin High School Counselors will still take your paper form. It is important that you have filled out your paper choice sheet you received in your ACES classes before January 30th and 31st.
Students please also make sure you have already completed the Austin High School Academy Preference Survey, the link in below.

FINE ARTS NEWS
Congratulations Band!
They represented O.Henry at the All-City concert on Saturday, January 21 at the AISD PAC. The All-City Band was conducted by Brian Frock, who recently retired from Austin High School.
Join the Cast!
Are you a singer, dancer, or actor?
Are you interested in performing?
The Theatre department is looking for a few student performers to join the cast of the spring musical, Bugsy Malone
A slapstick musical comedy, “Bugsy Malone” follows the rivalry between two half-witted street gangs of Fat Sam and Dandy Dan. In this film noir spoof, the message is one of good, clean fun; the characters are wonderful cartoon cutouts; and the weapons of choice are "splurge" whip cream guns, flour bombs, and custard pies. Out of the gooey pandemonium emerges a heartfelt message of friendship and kindness.
Rehearsals are after school 3:50 - 5:30 Mon - Thurs.
Show date is mid April (waiting on STAAR testing dates to finalize)
If interested please fill out the Google Form and join us Monday Jan. 30 (3:50 -5:30). We will talk about the show, sing some songs and have some fun.
If you have any questions stop by room 604(theater) and see Mrs. White or email. Becky.White@austinisd.org
