New Highview admin team

Dear Highview community,

Each year, we take time to evaluate the skills and placement of our administrators across the District as we look for opportunities to match individual strengths to building needs. We believe the best way to accomplish this is through a combination of moving existing administrators and the recruitment and hiring of new administrators.

Using this approach at Highview Middle School, we’d like to announce two moves that will create the opportunity to build a new administrative leadership team.

New principal

To start, I’m pleased to announce Nathan Flansburg, current Sunnyside Elementary School principal, will move to Highview and begin his new role as principal effective July 1. Nathan brings an experienced educational and administrative perspective to Highview, thanks to his unique and diverse career here at Mounds View Public Schools. Nathan has served the District as a teacher and administrator for 23 years across six different schools, including 12 years as a principal, first at Valentine Hills Elementary School and most recently at Sunnyside.

Nathan holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Bethel University, his administrative licensure from St. Mary’s University and his Doctorate of Education from Bethel University. Nathan and his wife, Jen, have two daughters, one in middle school and one in high school. Nathan loves spending time with his family, and cheering on our hometown sports teams.

Associate principal search

Associate principal Ben Chiri will be moving within the District next fall. Ben has served Highview for six years as a dean and an AP. We know he will be missed at Highview, but we are excited that his student-focused approach and commitment to all learners will remain in our district.

We will be immediately posting for an associate principal position. Given today’s social distancing requirements, our search may have to involve a remote group, but we will assemble a diverse committee of staff and community members to find a candidate that is the best fit for Highview and our community.
