Join us at the D&R Event Center to learn how growing our local music industry can drive economic growth, social & cultural development, job creation, and investment. This program, facilitated by multiple partners including Grays Harbor College, will feature guest speakers Dr. Bryce Merrill and Jesse Elliott from the Music District in Fort Collins, CO and Rebecca Gates, musician and entrepreneur, from Portland, OR. (see below for full speaker bio's)
The idea of an organized music scene in Aberdeen is gaining momentum as local community leaders have become familiar with another highly successful program in Fort Collins, CO. This program would assist our current emerging artists and work to attract musicians to Grays Harbor.
**Please note, the May Business Forum Lunch will be held at the D&R Event Center. The cost is $20 for members / $25 for non-members (lunch is included). Catering for this event will be by Aloha Alabama!

Dr. Bryce Merrill
Bryce Merrill is an arts research and cultural policy scholar. Bryce serves as the Music Programs Manager at Bohemian Foundation in Fort Collins, CO. Formally the director at Biennial of the Americas, Bryce has led a national arts and creative economy data project for cities and states throughout the US. He has consulted with governmental and nonprofit organizations on using data to create policies and programs for advancing the arts.
Bryce has published his research widely in academic and popular outlets. He is a co-author of the textbook Understanding Society through Popular Music (Routledge) and co-editor of The Present and Future of Symbolic Interactionism (Franco Angeli, Italy) and Interactionists Take on Popular Music (Emerald).
Jesse Elliot
Jesse is the Director of the Bohemian Foundation's Music District. He and his team have utilized research-based methods to create a thriving music scene in Fort Collins, CO described as a dynamic gathering hub, workspace and creative playground for the music community.
The Music District in Fort Collins is designed to help anyone hone their craft, learn the business and share skills and passions with musicians and music lovers. Jesse has helped many communities similar to Aberdeen and Grays Harbor County to utilize music and the arts as an economic and social catalyst.
Rebecca Gates
Gates is editor and co-founder of The Relay Project audiomagazine, a sound-only periodical featuring content from a variety of editorial and sonic sources. A co-curator of The Marfa Sessions, an exhibition of sonic land arts installations by international artists in Marfa, Texas, she has also been featured as an artist at Lehmann Maupin Gallery (New York, NY), Vedanta/Kavi Gupta Gallery (Chicago, IL), Centro La Fontana (Barcelona, SPAIN), Fontanelle (Portland, OR) and The Sun Valley Center for the Arts (Sun Valley, ID/Los Angeles, CA).
