Thank you to Mr. and Mrs. Torrans for hosting our 2017 staff Christmas party. If you could not attend the Christmas party, you missed out on a fabulous time. Ms. Torrans and her husband opened their beautiful and festively decorated home to us. There was some amazing food from some of our very own culinary geniuses and an ornament exchange that is still in dispute for those of us who really wanted that blinking snow ball and reindeer whistle!

As we prepare to go on our holiday break, this took will help me communicate information to you such as closing due to weather, changes in upcoming events and other important notifications.

The front office kiosk is working. Make sure you are fobbing in and out every day. You must fob in in the morning when you come in for work and then fob out in the afternoon when you leave for the day. Also, if you leave campus during the day for lunch, training, meetings or any other reason you should fob out and then fob back in upon your return to campus. If you are leaving work early due to illness, family emergency, appointment or any other reason then you must fob out as well. The key fob system is to help us keep up with staff, substitute, visitor, and student attendance. If you are having difficulty with your key fob please see Ms. Maggie.

ADE had created a series that is intended to introduce and clarify various topics related to the foundations of special education. This module has 3 courses each worth 1 credit hour toward professional development.

In the first course, Foundations in Special Education: Major Components of IDEA, Dr. Dia Jackson of American Institutes for Research describes different aspects of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA) in detail. She begins with a review of several key special education terms and a brief history of special education. She goes on to discuss the major components of IDEA 2004.

In the second course, Foundations in Special Education: Legal and Ethical Issues, Dr. Jackson clarifies how several laws and court cases impacted students with disabilities and helped shape special education as we know it today. She also discusses ethical behavior in education and the responsibilities of mandated reporters.

In the last course, Foundations of Special Education: Roles and Responsibilities, Dr. Jackson presents an overview of instructional best practices in special education service delivery and the roles and responsibilities commonly held by special education professionals. Dr. Jackson discusses several topics including collaboration, instructional strategies, and more. She also describes the type of professional development teachers should be receiving.
