Happy New Year!
FROM PRINCIPAL PAYNE
Dear Families,
We all hope this holiday break brought you time to slow down and really enjoy moments with your family and friends. The students and staff have worked so hard first semester, and 2nd semester will be even more jam packed with striving towards more standards and high expectations! K-5 will be take the Aimsweb benchmark test at the end of January to mark their progress since taking it in October. S.E.A. and Student Council have already arranged fun spirit days for the school to participate in throughout the semester that will be announced here, on Facebook and our web page. Third - fifth have been working out their fine motor skills in writing essays and will be tested on a writing prompt during March this year, and then finishing the reading, math and 5th grade science state tests in April/May as usual. All State Choir, Math Field Day, talent show, S.E.S. field day, 5th grade graduation - there's so much to look forwards to! There is no more unexaggerated expression than Time Flies, and this year is proving its truth! My time here has already changed my life. The staff, students and families have challenged me and changed me, and I am very proud to have the honor to lead a wonderful school with amazing people working in it and for it every day. I look forward to seeing you in 2024!
Mrs. Jodi Payne

NEEDLE FELTING AFTER SCHOOL
FROM THE FRONT OFFICE
Our attendance secretary would like to remind families who send in notes regarding their child to always include the child's first and last name please. You can email her changes regarding your child's day at kristin.ainsworth@k12.wv.us
Thank you for using the school or JCS website to submit your absences within 3 days of your child's absence. This simple step removes the possibility of the child not turning in a hand written note. Remember, you get 10 parent notes a year to excuse your child and after that they will be unexcused. You can submit as many doctor's notes as needed without any penalty. Lastly, if you are submitting an educational leave due to a vacation, you can find the paperwork on the JCS (Menu, students & families, parents & caregivers, Leave of Ed. Value Request Form) and you turn it in 5 days prior to the absence. You then have to turn in final project within 5 days after return to school. You may contact Mrs. Payne for any further clarification on absences.
