R-PTLE Weekly Family Communication
Week of October 9th, 2023 (#7)
October in Full Swing
Dear Families,
This may sound a bit odd, but as our school year is now in full swing, it will be Thanksgiving break before you know it. Which also means Winter break will be making us all feel that the year is flying by. I mention this to simply say, talk with your student(s) about their learning. Being locked in at school during this stretch of year will be looked upon as the work that fueled their amazing growth during the second half of the year.
Demographic Updates at the bottom: If you have not fully activated your parent portal, or if you have not fully completed all of the emergency contact lists in the system, we may run into moments of not being able to reach someone for information. Please consider taking some time this weekend to login and be sure our system has all the information you need us to have.
Big news item for THIS week - PICTUE DAY ON THURSDAY THE 12TH
Big news item for NEXT week - No school during "Fall break" on the 16 and 17th.
Please pour over the content in this newsletter. I feel like I need to clear a few items out as the thread is starting to get to be a bit long.
Let's enjoy an amazing week of learning!
Just added:
- Teacher of the Week - WZZM!
- Future Homecoming King and Queen!
- Costumes Available - call the office
- Paraprofessional help needed soon!

Rock Star Teacher
Mrs. Gearhart Affirmations from the Staff:
What a sweetheart of a person! What's not to love about Mrs. Kathy? Another gem at Twin Lake Elementary!
Ms. Kathy loves people! Big or small! Her smile is warm and welcoming…Ready to help, ready to hug, ready to listen. Kathy is a caring, supportive member of the TLE team.
She is a ray of positivity, who is willing to step up whenever and wherever asked. I admire her flexibility, and skillset she brings to the table no matter the student or grade level. :)
Ms. Kathy is a ray of sunshine. She is always so helpful and the kids love her. She is great at her job!
Ms. Kathy always has a smile on her face and is willing to help with whatever is needed! She has so much patience for our little learners! Thank you Ms. Kathy for all you do for us at TLE! We are lucky to have you!
Ms. Kathy is a natural with kids. She jumps right in and helps in any situation. She is fun and helpful, and the kids just love her. She will be missed while she is in Florida!
Teacher of the Week - Mrs. Olsen
Not supposed to leak this early, but I would like you all to have the opportunity to tune in. This story will be aired Monday morning, twice, between 5 and 7 AM on WZZM 13 news. It will also be aired during the day. It was a nice surprise for her this past Wednesday.
Congratulations, Mrs. Olsen! Well deserved.

Future Homecoming King and Queen
On a beautiful fall Friday evening.... wait, that was last week. On a chilly, wet, and lightening delayed Friday evening - two 2nd grade Rockets (Ivy Aman and Akron Kolbe) were able to experience being part of the high school's Homecoming night. It was a cool experience Friday night at the Homecoming game! Twin Lake had the honor of being able to boast this year's future Homecoming King and Queen.
Congratulations Ivy and Akron.
Costume Needed???
If you are in need of a costume and see one here that you would like to try, contact our office. We had a friendly visit from a person who brought these in for anyone to have.
Safe Routes to School Event!
Thank you for joining the kick off to our Safe Routes to School initiative! It was a fun time to gather and do some walking around with all of you. There are more things to come so be on the look out!
Our next event will be meeting up at Twin Lake Park for a fruit filled breakfast snack and a walk to school. Information on this event will be coming out soon.
Capturing Kids Hearts (CKH)
This Month's Theme is Self-Direct!
What does it mean to Self-Direct?
Self-Direction is the ability and learned skill to cast a vision of future goals and then take intentional steps toward who, where, and what we want to be. Instead of focusing on things to control or avoid, we emphasize our responsibility to make positive choices related to our emotions, attitudes, and actions.
Expectations are learned and practiced. Our routines have been established and practiced. Now, our choices, our attitudes, our actions and reactions towards those expectations will control our days at TLE. The self-directed student will take charge of his/her expectations and stay focused on improving.

Power School Demographic Update.
Important!
Updating your demographics in your parent portal is so critical to ensure effective communication, safety, and staying informed. Please follow the steps provided in the PDF below. If you already have a portal account the demographic update is fairly simple and straight forward. If you are new and need to create an account follow the steps below. Please call the office for assistance.
The portal will open this upcoming week. If you click on the link inside the PDF and it states the portal is temporarily disabled, please try again later. I am not sure when the portal will go live, but it will be live sometime early in the week. We will provide another set of instructions with pictures to help guide after the portal opens. I will send an updated newsletter with these updated instructions that may be easier to follow.
