Bobcat Bulletin
July 27, 2023
Bobcat Community,
This bulletin is to review some procedures and protocols that are new this year.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
Ms. Brasgalla
Principal
Puentes Middle School
Walk your Bobcat Trail Tonight from 4-6 pm
You are invited to come with your child to explore the campus and walk their schedule. We will have staff to assist you in accessing your child's schedule or getting a printed copy.
Each teacher will have a QR code for you to scan. This will enable you to get information on your child's teacher, their academic expectations, and a supply list.
It is important for 6th grade parents to make sure their child knows where to go for 1st period on Monday. We will NOT ALLOW PARENTS IN THE BUILDING ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL. We promise we will have staff members everywhere to assist your Bobcat in getting to class.
Student Schedules and Schedule Changes
Getting your Schedule
If you are unable to attend the Walk your Bobcat Trail event this evening, you can access your child's schedule in the following ways:
1. Skyward has gone live. You can download the app and complete your login.
2. We will post 1st period classes on our windows on Saturday. Students will receive their latest schedule on Monday during 1st period.
*Note we are still running schedules and balancing classes
Schedule Changes
Students will have access to a QR code to scan with a form to get a schedule change. Schedule changes are only done for students who are placed into the wrong class/grade level or have missing/duplicate classes. We cannot complete schedule changes for electives (if it was initially chosen during preregistration).
Students wishing to drop an HONORS course must get approval from Ms. Brasgalla.
*This form is the ONLY way to request a schedule change. Emails, calls, or parent visits cannot initiate a schedule change. Allow your child to take responsibility for their classes and complete the form.
Vaping and E-Cigarettes are now a Mandatory KEYS Placement
The state of Texas has now implemented a bill which makes ANY possession of a Vape/E-Cigarette a MANDATORY alternative school placement. This includes any vape whether it is nicotine or contains THC.
Vaping is an epidemic in our country and parents need to be aware of the consequences. For a Middle School student, they jeopardize their High School career with a KEYS placement. All extracurricular activities at the High School require students to have no disciplinary issues.
We need your help parents! Speak to your child about vaping and educate yourselves on what they look like.
We also need volunteers to assist us with hallway monitoring. This is a great way to build connections within our school. If you are interested, please let me know.
This is a picture of what vapes look like for your reference.
Pick Up and Drop Off at Puentes
Puentes is a walk safe/bike safe campus and we encourage you to allow your child some autonomy to bike or walk to school.
We currently have over 1100 students at Puentes and have no students who ride buses. Add to that the continued construction in the area and traffic for Butler ES and you have the perfect storm for a lot of traffic jams!
*Consider drop off/pick up in a nearby neighborhood as an alternate way to beat the traffic!
DROP OFF
- Only use the drop off zone for student drop off. The parking lots are NOT drop off zones!
- Once you enter the drop off zone, allow your child to exit. Keep traffic moving. Do not wait until they are right at the front door--it's OK to walk a few steps!
- Leave early to have your child in class by 7:45.
- Carpool if possible.
PICK UP
- Use the same zone to pick up students.
- Do NOT park and wait. You will be asked to keep moving. Consider a neighborhood pick up area if you need to come early and wait.
- Carpool if possible
- Staff parking lots are not pick up zones.
Lunch Application
https://www.myschoolapps.com/Home/PickDistrict
Families who do not complete the application will get reminder calls and texts--don't get on the list!
Grab and Go Breakfast
We will have free breakfast for all students as a Grab and Go beginning at 7:15 am until 7:55 am in our Cafeteria.
