Nationwide Milk Carton Shortage
November 1, 2023
Did you know there is a shortage of material used to package milk into cartons?
Berkeley County Schools received notice that our milk vendor is affected by this nationwide shortage and that beginning next week, we will only receive 60% of our normal orders.
What does this mean for student meals?
At this time, students will continue receiving milk with all school breakfasts. To stretch our availability of milk, our child nutrition team acted swiftly to order 8-ounce bottled water to supplement student school lunches.
Starting Monday, November 6, 2023, students may select an 8-ounce bottle of water in place of milk for school lunch only. Students will have to make a choice. Extra milk will not be sold during this shortage. Students with a packed lunch may purchase one milk or a bottle of water for $0.25.
Our thanks to the BCS Community.
Thank you in advance to our students for their willingness accept this temporary milk/water choice, and to our school cafeteria teams for helping to implement these options. It is not known how long this shortage will last. Please know that your cooperation and patience with our staff are sincerely appreciated.
