Exciting District News
Pawnee Goes Virtual
Pawnee ISD will be creating a virtual reality lab for students to obtain CTE skills which will allow students opportunities to transfer those skills to hands-on training for certifications through Coastal Bend College. In addition, the virtual reality lab will be opened up for community members that need continuing education hours through Coastal Bend College. This is exciting news because Pawnee will be one of the only virtual reality labs in the area that allows community members and students opportunities through Coastal Bend College. Hours will be posted once the lab is set up and running.
Bus Corner
Great news! At the school board meeting on October 10th, the board approved buying two new school buses. Pawnee ISD placed the order with RUSH Truck Centers for two 2024 Bluebird school buses with a 6.7L Cummins diesel and an Allison transmission that can seat 71 passengers. I'd like to thank the school board and community for keeping the safety of our students a priority. RUSH Truck Center estimates the buses should be delivered November/December. Just a fun fact: The word bus is short for “Omnibus" which means “for everyone”.
Old Ag Barn Repurposed
Out with the old, In with the new
The old Ag building is getting some much needed repairs. The school board approved having Parson’s Roofing come out and repair the roof and replace the skylights in the building. The classroom is being updated by Pawnee’s maintenance crew with new insulation, sheetrock and flooring. In addition, the mid-section of the building will get a facelift inside where students can have an updated weight room. The other end of the building is being updated to double as a welding shop and mechanic shop for our new CTE programs.
Pawnee ISD Ratings
Pawnee ISD would like to announce that the district received a rating of “A” “Superior Achievement” under the Texas School FIRST Financial Accountability Rating System. The “Superior Achievement'' rating is the state's highest, demonstrating the quality of Pawnee ISD’s financial management and reporting system. This rating shows that Pawnee ISD is accountable not only for student learning, but also for achieving these results in a cost-effective and efficient manner so as to make the most of our taxpayers' dollars.
Pawnee's Future
"To Inspire" "To Impact" and "To Improve Lives"
As the Superintendent, I am asking for community members to join the school district in not only providing opportunities for students but in building a true sense of community. We are asking community members to join a planning team with the school district to plan and present a bond package to the school board that will meet the needs of the district and also meet the needs of the community. Pawnee ISD has officially joined the FFA (Future Farmers of America) in order to grow an agriculture based district! Last year there was a bond for 22 million dollars that failed , but it failed because part of the problem was that the bond was solely based on school needs and did not consider community needs and it did not elicit community input. I really think with community input and planning the bond package doesn't have to be a large bond, it could be a short low cost bond that the windfarms and solar projects would pay the majority of the bond. The school district is wanting to concentrate on the agriculture and entrepreneurship programs of study through Texas Education Agency. The district has purchased two green houses so that students can learn the art of horticulture through gardening, cultivation and management. The school district owns the lot adjacent to the Pawnee Post Office. One of the proposals is for that lot to be used to build a small Pawnee grocery store that will include a meat market so kids can learn the stages of starting and managing a business. The store would give students the opportunity to learn about the entrepreneurship cluster for business and at the same time provide the community with a local store to shop at instead of having to travel to Kenedy HEB or Three River's Lowes. This allows the school district an opportunity to become a district that brings a whole new meaning of “From the Farm” “To the Market” "To the Table". In addition, this will create jobs for students and community members. The future plans will benefit both the community and school. So please, if you are a community member, come to future meetings to have input in building a bond package that will truly impact the Pawnee community for years to come.
Coffee with Administrators
To keep the community informed and to provide direct factual information, the Superintendent hosts a coffee meet and greet on the first Wednesday of every month at the Pawnee Community Center from 6:30 am to 8:30 am. This coffee break is meant to keep community members informed about the great things happening with the school district and it also gives the community members an opportunity to address any concerns they may have regarding the school district. Most importantly, however, it is meant to bring the school and community together. If you are unable to attend at these times, please call me on my cell phone and I would love to address any questions or concerns you may have regarding the school. Anthony Annis Cell #l 210-904-6559
Please join us at 6:30am to 8:30am.
Weekend and Evening Access to Walking Track, Playground and Pavilion
There are plans for setting open access hours for the community to use the pavilion, play ground, and the walking track on weekends and evenings. The school district is in the process of cleaning up around the school grounds, and once this is done, the hours will be posted on Facebook. In addition, signs have been ordered to post on the entrance gates that will show the open hours and will inform the community members that the school district is not liable for accidents if you decide to use the facilities. We are asking the community to be patient while we work on getting the area safe for public use. These amenities will not be available during school hours. The School Board and the Superintendent want the community to be able to enjoy a safe place for kids to play and community members to walk, instead on FM 798 where the traffic volume is high. Rest assured it is coming soon. If you have any questions, you can call the school at 361-456-7256 or call the superintendent directly on his cell phone # 210-904-6559. We also ask that if you do plan on using the facilities that you take of care of the equipment and help keep the area clean.
