It's Time for a Life Timeout
As I sat down to think of a monthly topic for our newsletter that would be humorous, insightful, informational and endearing, it dawned on me that I had nothing and so I sought inspiration in the time honored tradition of staring out the window until something came to mind. I noticed the beautiful sun shining, birds chirping and the complete lack of snow on the ground (yay!!!) and that’s when it hit me! It is finally getting nice enough to go outside again after the winter that just wouldn’t end.
Right now, our students are stressed about state testing, course recommendations, projects and a whole host of other things going on in their lives as the school year is wrapping up. They are tired and definitely feeling the grind of life lived at 100 mph. What better time for the kids to take a time out with family and spend some quality time together relaxing and enjoying themselves? I urge all of you to call a timeout on life for a few hours this weekend and get together with your kids for a picnic trip to the park, a trip to the local ice cream shop or a family bike ride to somewhere fun. You will be amazed at the regenerative effect this will have on your child! They are way too cool to express it in middle school, but kids really do still like that type of attention and they could use a nice respite amidst all the stress. Seize the day and go have fun with your kids! You won’t regret it and it will do them a world of good!
Mrs. Andrea Ferguson, Assistant Principal
Due to the recent tragedy in Florida the safety of our students has been in the forefront of all our minds. Rest assured everyone here at Coy is deeply invested in keeping our children safe. Our teachers continue to educate students about safety and situational awareness, our staff has implemented stricter entry procedures, security has improved our practice drills, and our PTO has installed security curtains on all classroom doors. These are only a few of the many ways Coy is working together as a community to ensure our school is a safe place to learn and grow. On March 14th we paused to remember to reach out to those around you who support us every day. It is our strength as a community that will guide us down the path to a better place.

Hayden is always willing to help out his fellow classmates on a daily basis. Hayden always has a smile on his face and a kind, encouraging word to say. Hayden is a true example of showing good character.
Hayden demonstrates responsibility through his dedication to getting good grades while being involved in numerous activities. Haden plays football, wrestles, and is on the swim team. Despite all of his activities, Hayden gets good grades and became part of the National Junior Honor Society this year. Hayden always puts forth full effort in everything he does. Hayden is a shining star at Coy.
Rauru Takikawa, 8th Grade
Everyday, Rauru always has a smile on his face and is exceptionally kind to his teachers and peers. He will go out of his way to ask how someone is doing or offer to help in any situation. For example, if a student has accidently dropped their belongings, without hesitation, Rauru is the first one there to pick it up for them. Also, if he notices someone working alone, he will ask this person to join his group.
Rauru takes ownership of his learning. He has a great work ethic and never hesitates to ask his teachers for assistance. For example, he takes initiative to contact Mr. Busch to ask math questions and attend review sessions. He has a definitive love of learning, which transcends in all subject matters.

From the Guidance Office
Happy April! State testing is well underway at Coy Middle School and across the state. Students and teachers have done a nice job of preparing for and taking the assessments. Testing will continue through April.
On to the topic of registering for classes. Teachers are in the process of making recommendations for ELA and Math for the 2018-2019 school year. They will be notifying students and parents in the next couple weeks of the courses they recommend. If you have any questions about the recommendations made, please contact your child's teacher. Their contact information is listed on the Coy Middle School website under the staff link. Before the end of this school year, students will receive a registration verification sheet that will include the courses for which they are registered. This is not a schedule but a list of courses that they are requesting. Students will be able to pick up their actual schedules sometime the week before school starts in August. Notification that schedules can be picked up will be made via school messenger and on the Coy website.
