Classroom Spotlight: Preschool
From Ms. Bon
In our preschool class, the excitement of learning knows no bounds. Our young scholars have recently embarked on a captivating journey to unravel the mysteries of the water cycle, aiming to answer the age-old question: "Why does it rain?"
Engaging inquisitive minds in multifaceted learning experiences, we delved into this natural phenomenon through various creative avenues. While drawing the water cycle was an inspiring starting point, our exploration didn't end there. To further deepen their understanding, our students ventured into the tactile realm, wielding colorful playdough to sculpt and showcase the dynamic process of the water cycle.
Imagination soared as tiny hands molded playdough into miniature landscapes, creating mountains, oceans, clouds, and suns. With each squish and shape, our preschoolers brought the water cycle to life, maneuvering playdough through the stages of evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and collection.
The classroom buzzed with excitement as these young scientists eagerly showcased their creations, narrating the story of water's journey with enthusiasm and a newfound sense of ownership. Through this hands-on activity, they grasped the transformative journey of water, from vapor in the sky to droplets falling as rain or snow, and back again to replenish our rivers and oceans.
Witnessing their creativity and understanding unfold was truly remarkable. Some crafted intricate scenes with meticulous attention to detail, while others animatedly explained the process, fostering a collaborative environment where knowledge flowed freely between peers.
This experiential learning wasn't just about playdough and sculptures; it encapsulated the essence of exploration and discovery. It allowed our young learners to touch, feel, and mold their comprehension of the water cycle, turning abstract concepts into tangible, moldable realities.
As an educator, I couldn't be prouder of the enthusiasm and insight displayed by our preschoolers. Their playdough representations not only showcased their creativity but also highlighted their deepening understanding of the scientific processes that govern our world.
This journey through the water cycle, enriched by drawings and playdough creations, encapsulated the joy of learning. It exemplified the power of hands-on experiences in fostering curiosity, igniting imagination, and nurturing a profound connection with the wonders of nature.
As we conclude this chapter of exploration, I am excited to witness the continued growth of our young scholars and the endless possibilities that await them on their educational voyage.
PYP Exhibition
The culmination of all they learned
Last Friday marked an extraordinary moment at our school as the dynamic minds of our grade 5 and 6 students took center stage in our annual Primary Years Programme (PYP) exhibition. This event showcased not only their intellectual growth but also their passion for making a difference in the world around us.
From the intricate wonders of coral reefs to the complexities of gender bias, the importance of exercise, the vital role of honey bees, decoding movie morals, exploring ocean animals, understanding phone addiction, and grappling with the concept of unnatural death—the depth and breadth of their exploration were awe-inspiring.
What truly set this exhibition apart was not just the dissemination of knowledge but the students' commitment to action. Alongside their informative presentations, these aspiring change-makers organized fundraising activities to raise awareness and support for their chosen causes. Their dedication extended beyond the classroom, reaching out to our school community and sparking conversations that transcended the confines of our campus.
The creativity and dedication displayed by our students were nothing short of remarkable. Each group used innovative methods to engage the audience, from interactive displays and thought-provoking posters to captivating presentations that reflected their deep understanding and impassioned advocacy.
Witnessing our young learners take charge, speaking eloquently about pressing global issues, and advocating for change was a testament to the holistic education nurtured through the PYP framework. The exhibition wasn't merely a culmination of academic learning but a celebration of empathy, critical thinking, and the courage to take a stand for what matters.
As educators, we couldn't be prouder of the immense growth and initiative demonstrated by our grade 5 and 6 students. Their dedication to learning, their advocacy for change, and their compassion for the world around them are beacons of hope for a brighter, more informed future.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported our students in this endeavor, contributing to the success of this exhibition and empowering our students to become catalysts for positive change.
