Each week we randomly select students from this group and acknowledge them in our morning announcements and in the weekly MUSTANG MINUTE. Congratulations to our BMS Students of Greatness for the month of February!

In Ms. Ferguson's writing class this week, we started our opinion writing unit! We started by reading the book Hey Little Ant. Then as a class we discussed both character's perspectives so that we could form an informed opinion on if they were Team Ant or Team Kid. Students worked hard to write their opinion, reasons, and explanations. Also, they worked to edit their own writing before writing their final draft. We have some strong opinions in this class!

Students in Mrs. Tadlock's class are learning how to explain the Law of Conservation of Mass. They recently conducted a lab in which they were charged with determining if a reaction is endothermic or exothermic, and explaining how changing the amount of a reactant changes the amount of the product. When students work in a lab in Mrs. Tadlock's class, each person assumes a special role: director, materials manager, facilitator, or technician. This ensures that the workload is evenly distributed, and helps students in developing collaboration skills alongside learning science. The roles change for each lab so that students gain practical experience in each of these areas. Pictured below are several students working together on the lab. As you can see, they are busy and smiles are a mainstay in this class!

On February 28th, our 8th grade teachers sent home a packet of important graduation information with students. If you have not seen this packet, please ask your student for it. The packet includes information about the requirements for graduation, ordering a cap and gown, and how your student’s name should be printed on their diploma and announced at graduation. This information is essential as we begin planning for our graduation ceremony. It will be here before we know it!

Please return every sheet in the packet - blue, pink, and green - to Ms. Metcalf. Packets are due no later than Friday, March 25th. If you need another packet, please email Ms. Metcalf at jessica.metcalf@gcj2.k12.wi.us.

Team 8

Congratulations to the girls’ and boys’ volleyball teams! They will be heading to the Divisional Tournament (playoffs) next week on Tuesday! Come out and support your Mustangs!

The boys’ tournament will be held at Randall. Games will begin at 4pm.

The girls’ tournament will be held at Trevor-Wilmot in the large gym. The Mustangs will be playing at 4pm, 5pm, and 6pm.

Parents and fans who plan to attend the girls’ tournament, please read the following from Trevor-Wilmot: If you arrive prior to 3:30pm there will be congestion in the parking lots due to dismissal. Additionally, parking in the front may be limited. You may park in the East lot and enter through Door 1. There will be concessions, but we ask that you limit food and drinks in the gymnasium. Water is okay. There is limited bleacher seating with this many teams in the tournament. There will be chairs along the sides of the court. Please be mindful of the teams playing, especially serving, if you need to leave the bleachers/seating at any time.

We are excited to have Seal-A-Smile coming back this year. Seal-A-Smile is a school-based oral health service that provides dental screenings, fluoride treatments, and dental sealants. During the weeks of March 21- April 29, our Brookwood students in grades 3-8 will engage in Forward State testing. The Wisconsin Forward Exam is administered online in the spring of each school year and is designed to gauge how well students are doing in relation to the Wisconsin Academic Standards. Please read below for additional details regarding the specifics of this test.

Guth Games are BACK!!! For those not in the "know", Guth Games are fun exercise activities, sports, and games hosted by Personal Wellness teacher, Mr. Guth, in the gym during the colder months of the school year. This is a GREAT way to get students moving right away in the morning to kickstart their day!

WHEN: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, NOW until March 24th, 7:00 - 7:30am

WHERE: BMS GYM (enter building in FRONT doors)

WHO:

• Tuesdays: 4th & 5th Graders
• Wednesdays: 6th, 7th & 8th Graders
