Three seats are open on the Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School Board of Education. Candidates elected to the Board during the 2022-23 Budget vote and Board Election will serve three year terms. Voters will elect one person for each of the three (3) positions on the Board of Education effective July 1, 2022. Terms are three (3) years each.

HF-L Summer Soccer Camps Registration is now open for any boy or girl entering grades K-12 in the fall 2022. See the attached flyer for more information and a link to register. Camps will be held at the Middle School turf field August 15th-18th.

The Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. Now in its 23rd year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.

To qualify for the Best Communities designation, HF-L answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music program and community music-making programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.

“It is an honor to be recognized for the 11th consecutive year. Music is such an important part of a complete education. As a department, we take great pride in offering such a rich experience for our HF-L students,” said Andrew Vetter, HF-L H.S. Concert Band Director.

Since the passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) in 2015 and a stated emphasis on a well-rounded education, many school districts have re-committed to music and arts education programs. During the pandemic, music and arts programs were a vital component to keeping students engaged in school. ESSA provides designated funding for well-rounded educational opportunities through Title IV Part A Student Academic Success and Achievement grants. NAMM Foundation research has revealed that these grants are being widely used by school districts to address instructional gaps in access to music and arts education.

“Music education at all levels is important to the growth for all students. The social-emotional benefits, especially during Covid, are immense. And in later years, the connection between music and other curricular areas like math are well studied. Yet, for so many students, music is the one class that brings them to school every day. The music rooms seem to be one place they are happiest,” said Vetter.

Research into music education continues to demonstrate educational/cognitive and social skill benefits for children who make music: After two years of music education, researchers found that participants showed more substantial improvements in how the brain processes speech and reading scores than their less-involved peers and that students who are involved in music are not only more likely to graduate high school, but also to attend college as well. Everyday listening skills are stronger in musically trained children than in those without music training. Significantly, listening skills are closely tied to the ability to: perceive speech in a noisy background, pay attention, and keep sounds in memory. Later in life, individuals who took music lessons as children show stronger neural processing of sound: young adults and even older adults who have not played an instrument for up to 50 years show enhanced neural processing compared to their peers. Not to mention, social benefits include conflict resolution, teamwork skills, and how to give and receive constructive criticism.

HFL's Before & After School Care program also offers full-day care on many non-school days too. Available to all students K-5th grade. Vacation Care is available to everyone, not just those who attend Cougar Care during the school days! LEGO Robotics Beginners for Grades 3-5. Class begins April 12 and runs Tuesday/Thursday 3:00 -4:00 through May 12. This class will introduce students to the basics of robotics and programming concepts. Working in pairs, students will use a LEGO Mindstorms education kit to learn how to program it to move and react to its environment using the Lab VIEW-based visual programming language, EV3-G.

Concepts taught and reinforced include programming skills, teamwork, communication, problem solving, critical thinking, perseverance, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The Honeoye Falls-Lima Alumni Hall of Fame is now accepting nominations for the 2022 Hall of Fame Induction Class. The Hall of Fame was established in 1995 to recognize distinguished graduates of Honeoye Falls, Lima, and Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School Districts who have distinguished themselves with exceptional achievements and contributions to their school, community, and country. By recognizing these exceptional graduates, we can provide positive role models for the present-day students in the Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District. Nominees, living or deceased, must be a graduate of Honeoye Falls, Lima, or Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School Districts and have graduated at least ten years prior to nomination. The nominee must have demonstrated significant contributions to their community and/or country, with emphasis on post-secondary achievements. The selection committee will follow an open nomination procedure with anyone eligible to nominate a qualified graduate. Please note that completed nomination packets are due May 1st. Nomination packets may be downloaded from the HF-L Website (www.hflcsd.org/page/hall-of-fame) or obtained in the District Office, 20 Church Street, Honeoye Falls, NY 14472. The Honeoye Falls-Lima Central School District is happy to announce its partnership with Paper, a digital tutoring service. This service is available to all HF-L students in grades 4-12 and will provide free, unlimited access to virtual tutoring sessions. These sessions are 1:1 and are available 24 hours a day. Students can access this using their ClassLink portal.

Using Paper, students get homework help, writing feedback, and study support on demand. Teachers gain insights into learning gaps. Administrators have visibility into where support is needed.

UPDATE: Paper is now offering live parent webinars. They are every 2 weeks in English and Spanish. 45 mins, parents sign up through that page and they will receive a Zoom link by email. https://pages.paper.co/webinars-for-parents-and-guardians
