We had an amazing week of learning and hands on experiences with the Educating Outside the Lines Disability Awareness programming. A special thanks to all of our parent volunteers for your help in the grade level activities. While we are always talking about our different ABILITIES, this week each grade level focused on different topics and strategies, including service dogs, adapted wheelchairs, and low and high tech communication systems.

All schools in the North Shore District will engage in outdoor recess unless temperatures are at or below 15 degrees (including wind chill) or if there is precipitation (not including light snow). Students will also be allowed to come into our buildings before school when the temperature is at 15 degrees or below including wind chill.

Please remind your child to bring the following winter gear if s/he would like to play in the snow during recess:

• Jacket
• Boots
• Snow pants
• Gloves
• Hat

ALL parents/guardians may use the front circle during the following hours:

• 6:30am - 8:00am AND 8:36am - 2:45pm AND after 3:25pm

ONLY cars, cabs, buses with SPECIAL PARKING PERMITS can use the front circle during the following hours:

• 8:00 - 8:36am AND 2:45pm - 3:25pm

We will be hosting our 2nd fire drill (with the fire department) on Monday, November 18th at 9:00am. Rain date - 11/22/19 @9:00am.

Calling all authors! We have something special to share with you! Griffin's Tale is coming back to Sherwood School this springl! All stories, along with the Story Identification Form, must be handed into the box in the main office by Friday, November 22nd. So, what are you waiting for...grab a pencil, or Chromebook, & start spinning your own creative story! Let’s laugh with literature at Sherwood School! Highland Park Poetry is pleased to announce its 2020 Poetry Challenge. The contest invites poets of all ages to write poems that address one of the following challenges:

• Sight (in recognition of the year 2020 sounding like “20/20” or a person with normal vision)
• Mars (in honor Isaac Asimov & Ray Bradbury’s 100th Birthdays and NASA 2020 Mars Rover)
• Magic 9 (a fun poetic form by Divena Collins whose rhyme scheme is a misspelling of Abracadabra!)

Congressman Brad Schneider is hosting a holiday greeting card competition open to all fourth and fifth-grade students in NSSD112 and the Tenth Congressional District. The winning artwork will be used as the cover design for my annual Holiday Card. There are no size restrictions, as the winning artwork will be scaled to fit the card cover. This year’s holiday card theme is “Family Traditions”. All submissions are due by Monday, December 2, 2019, and the winner will be announced in early December. All entries should be dropped off at his Lincolnshire office located at 111 Barclay Blvd, Suite 200, Lincolnshire, IL 60069.

All students will be learning about ALICE the week of November 11th - 15th.

All students and staff will participate in an Active Intruder Drill on November 20th @11am. The Highland Park Police Department will be present during this drill. We will be focusing on the evacuation strategy during this drill.
