CMIT South Elementary School
Week of November 27, 2022

Friday, April 28, 2023
Principal's Desk
Greetings Tiger Families,
Thank you for a wonderful week! We started this week off with 5th-grade MCAP testing. Our 5th graders tackled two days of math and two days of reading of Maryland state testing. We also concluded our last day for clubs this past Thursday with a celebration, which included certificates, pizza, cookies, cupcakes, and juice. Our students enjoyed celebrating one another, sharing what they learned, as well as designing poster boards for our Clubs Presentation this Friday. Thank you to our Reader’s Theater, Maker's Space, and Music Club for a great presentation of “The Wiz” for our scholars, staff, and parents. Thank you to all our parent volunteers who supported clubs with donations as well throughout this year. If you are interested in volunteering at CMIT South Elementary we have several upcoming activities, the next being Career Day on May 18, 2023.
Families, we are also asking you to have conversations and reinforce your expectations with students regarding behavior in the bathrooms. School bathrooms should be correctly used in a clean manner. Bathroom facilities are also not social gathering places. Students have been having unnecessary messes and issues because they are not being responsible in the restrooms. Our two-person custodial team is responsible for the cleanliness of the whole building and they work tirelessly to maintain our school with pride. Students will be held responsible to do their part to take pride in respecting our beautiful building.
May is also Mental Health Awareness Month and we are excited to partner with the Willow Oak MD Chapter of the Links, Inc. to bring mental health awareness and education to our 3rd-5th graders. Our Charter Operator, Chesapeake Lighthouse Foundation, will also be advocating and sponsoring several activities all month long to encourage students, staff, and families to take steps to improve their mental health including getting outside to learn, move and relax.
Finally, this past week was Administrative Professionals day and, to all of the administrative professionals in the Tiger family, we want to say thank you for all you do. We want to specifically highlight our front office team of Mrs. April Joy, Ms. Jaime Bull, and Mrs. Juliana Derin for all their hard work, consistency, and dedication to our school community. Thank you for all you do.
