CRES Parent Update 10-1-23
The Cubzette
From the Principal
Dear Cub Families,
Last week was a busy but productive week! We had a great turnout out for our JMU Math Night; thank you to everyone who came to school last Thursday evening! We also had a GREAT PTA Fun Run on Friday! A very BIG THANK YOU to our PTA for hosting this event to raise money for our playground!
Our SCA election is completed! The students who ran for office did a wonderful job campaigning and giving their speeches. What really warmed my heart was when we announced the winners, all the students genuinely applauded for one another. The sportsmanship and respect was truly amazing! We have some great Cubs!
Our first spirit week to bring awareness to school attendance was a fun time! We love spirit weeks here at Cub! I believe our new SCA officers and representatives will be sponsoring another spirit week in October, so we look forward to that!
We have a few things coming up this week, too! Monday, October 2 is National Custodian Appreciation Day! We want to be sure that Mr. Travis Norris, Ms. Lisa Shifflett, Mr. Matt Slye, and Ms. Hope Smith all know how much we appreciate everything they do!
Also, Jumpin' Cubs tryouts are this coming Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday! We look forward to seeing them perform this year!
We hope everyone has a great week! If you need anything, please contact the school!
Ms. Martz

Farm to School Week October 2-6, 2023
Next week, RCPS Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) will be celebrating Farm to School Week by featuring local meats, fruits and vegetables on our menus. Our menu will include: locally raised ground beef from GlenDor Farms in Harrisonburg, freshly harvested potatoes from Valley Farming in Dayton, bibb-style lettuce from Portwood Gardens in Dayton, apples from Showalter's Orchard in Timberville, and sweet potatoes from Hanover. Our high schools will also be featuring pork bratwurst this month from Bakers Pork in Mount Jackson.
Additionally, RCPS FNS is participating in the Crunch Heard 'Round the Commonwealth on Thursday, October 5, 2023. This is a Virginia-wide initiative to increase awareness of Virginia's Farm to School programs. Join us in your school's cafeteria to take a "crunch" out of a Virginia grown apple to make some noise for farm to school!
