A Look Into Our Panther Community!
POSTIVE OFFICE REFERRALS
Ms. Wosleger's 6th Grade Science
As part of our reproduction and growth unit, students have been investigating reproduction in angiosperms. The flower dissection gave them a hands-on experience to identify and observe the reproductive parts of a lily as they worked in groups to dissect their flower.
Mrs. Aiken's 7th Grade ELA Class
Students have started their research projects! They will be researching a topic that is meaningful to them and presenting their information at the end of the unit through a TED (Technology, entertainment, design) Talk, which is a short speech or presentation that "pitches" an idea or thought to an audience. The students worked to synthesize their notes and create notebook pages that focus on the central idea.
6th Grade Math Classes
This week 6th graders in Mr. Quinn and Mrs. Searles’ math classrooms began a new unit using the resource Illustrative Mathematics. Students have begun a Geometry Unit where they are determining the area of polygons. Students were decomposing and rearranging new figures to represent their areas using various manipulatives of their choice. Students are enjoying working in collaborative groups and engaging in math discourse.
EHMS Drama Club - Guys & Dolls!
We explained to the students during rehearsal that crew would not be needed until mid-February at the earliest. As we grow closer to that time, we will make sure to post the exact date we want them to start attending rehearsals.
As for the cast, Mrs. Rahusen or Mrs. Werme will post who they need for the following week via Parentsquare and Google Classroom before the following week begins. Assume that if you are in the cast, you will be needed every rehearsal.
*You can click on the flyer to the right to access the schedule for the remainder of the year. (Schedule is subject to change)
*Rehearsals will immediately follow the school day and meet either in the library or music room (students will be made aware of location).
*Be sure to send your child with a water bottle, pencil, snacks, and their script.
Rehearsals are going Great!!

Lunch Chess
Lunch Chess started in the library this week. Students from each lunch wave ate, visited, and played chess. Students taught each other the game and are looking forward to playing again. Students may sign up with their homeroom teacher Thursday morning to play during Thursday lunch.
The student Mural Project is complete and almost ready to start traveling to the Town Hall, East Hampton Public Library, and the Middle Haddam Library for display to the community. Many students contributed their time. Only one student at a time could work on each piece as this project took place during our initial Covid time together. It was a collaborative effort while we all maintained physical separation.

Important Attendance Reminder
A reminder that the following email addresses can be used by parents to report and document their approval of an absence:
Memorial_Attendance@easthamptonct.org
Center_Attendance@easthamptonct.org
EHMS_Attendance@easthamptonct.org
EHHS_Attendance@easthamptonct.org
If you have successfully emailed the school, you will receive an autoreply that notifies you that the absence communication has been received and recorded. This process is effective for your child for the first 9 absences. After your student has more than 9 absences, additional documentation or communication is required to excuse the absence. However, please continue to use the email designated for your child's school to continue to notify the school that your child will be absent. You may call your child’s school at any time to report an absence but please make sure to follow up a phone call with a note or email to the attendance email.

that Little League USA sets the age determination and it is flexible. Each town
designates certain ages depending on what programs are available. If you go to the
Little League USA website to look up a players age, it may say they are eligible to play
Majors baseball (if they are 9). East Hampton Little League then can decide to allow 9
year olds to play minors and not play majors. These decisions are made by the EHLL
Board of Directors. East Hampton Little League’s age determination rules are within
the guidelines of Little League USA.
