April 23 – 29 is National Library Week
The theme for 2023’s National Library Week is “There's More to the Story.” According to the American Library Association this theme “illustrates the fact that in addition to the books in library collections, available in a variety of formats, libraries offer so much more. Many libraries now lend items like museum passes, games, musical instruments, and tools. Library programming brings communities together for entertainment, education, and connection through book clubs, storytimes, movie nights, crafting classes, and lectures. And library infrastructure advances communities, providing internet and technology access, literacy skills, and support for businesses, job seekers, and entrepreneurs.”
In honor of this year’s theme, take time to share your library’s multifaceted story! Libraries and library supporters can celebrate National Library Week by participating in the week’s events. You can share your celebrations and follow others through the hashtag #NationalLibraryWeek.

Attention Public Libraries: Are you making use of this free tool for tracking library programs?
The State Library’s WhoFi license includes the Community Calendar tool to help library programming staff schedule, manage, and count library programs. Here are three facts you should know about the service:
- The Community Calendar can be integrated on your library’s website for sharing out library events. You can even collect patron registrations for library programs.
- The calendar tool is aligned with the State Library’s data requirements, making it easy to report library programming on the summer reading survey and your library’s annual report.
- You can record attendance at your library programs any time after the event.
