Discipline Management Plan and Student Code of Conduct

The Discipline Management Plan and Student Code of Conduct is Katy ISD’s specific response to requirements of Chapter 37 of the Texas Education Code. The law requires the District to define misconduct that may or must result in a range of specific disciplinary consequences. This Code is an outgrowth of collaboration among District and campus staff, parents, other community members, and representatives of appropriate county juvenile boards. This Code, adopted by the Board of Trustees of Katy ISD, provides information and direction to students and parents regarding expected standards of behavior as well as potential consequences for misconduct.

VAPING VAPING

Tardy Policy

Tardies

A student is considered tardy when the student is not inside the classroom before the last bell rings of the tardy bell. According to each school’s tardy procedure, a student with documented tardies may be assigned to detention (after school detention - 1 to 3 hours) or other appropriate disciplinary consequence, including but not limited to, loss of privileges including parking. Students who are tardy for more than 50% of a given class period will be counted absent for attendance purposes. Students checking out of school for the day during a given class period will be recorded as absent if the student leaves before 50% of the class period has elapsed.

Cinco Ranch High School Tardy Consequences

1 – 3 tardies = No consequence

4 – 6 tardies = 1 hour after school detention

7 – 9 tardies = 2 hour after school detention

10 – 12 tardies = 3 hour after school detention

13 – 15 + tardies = a level 3 offense (3.26) Persistent Level 2 offenses which will result in In School Suspension (ISS)

  • The total number of tardies are an accumulation of every period
  • Tardies reset to zero at the beginning of each six weeks.
  • 10 tardies per class period in a semester will result in a loss of exemptions for that class.
  • Disciplinary actions for tardies depends on the number of tardies the student receives in a designated timeframe. Example: If a student is tardy 8 times in a six weeks, they will receive the consequence for 7-9 tardies.

2023-2024: Smart ID System

This school year, a new SMART Tag bus rider ID system will be rolled out across Katy ISD school buses to help monitor the ridership of eligible bus riders. The system will enable parents, bus drivers, and school administrators, to review in real time, when and where a student is picked up or dropped off by a school bus. Student identification (ID) cards for eligible riders will include the SMART Tag ID information. Buses will be equipped with a tablet that will read each student’s ID every time they enter and exit their bus. Parents and guardians will also have access to the SMART Tag Parent Web Portal — a cloud-based platform that will enable them to monitor their student’s ridership and bus route. Parents and guardians of eligible bus riders will receive additional information about the Smart Tag ID system via the email address they have on file with the district. The Smart Tag ID system replaces Katy ISD’s Edulog Lite App.

Speak Up Anonymous Reporting App

SpeakUP is the anonymous reporting platform that students, parents, and patrons can use to report safety concerns, bullying, threats of violence, drug use, as well as any other concerns related to student physical or mental health. SpeakUP is available for download in the Apple Store or Google Play. It is also available on all District websites, computers and District devices. SpeakUP provides an opportunity for the Katy ISD community to anonymously provide valuable information to District administration and law enforcement that will help keep our students safe.
