Charles Town Prowler
September 12 edition
A message from the principal
We are gearing up for another great week at CTMS. Teachers and students are working hard with curriculum in every content area. This is great news as we are nearing the mid-point of the first 9-weeks!
Teachers are now updating grades in Canvas. Please make sure you are able to follow your student's progress within Canvas. This is how you will check your student's midterm grades. If you are not, please reach out to the school so we can set you up with an observer pair code linked to your student.
We will be reaching out to students who are at risk of failing a core course after the mid-point of the 9-weeks. We will be offering tutoring for those students who have a D or F at the mid-point. Look out for more information on this opportunity.
You will notice updates in this week's Prowler from various groups and/or teachers at CTMS. We are looking forward to providing weekly updates from staff sponsors each week.
This week, our Builder's Club will be participating in Day of Caring with United Way. We have athletic events for Volleyball, Cross Country, and Football this week. Best of luck to all the Panthers competing this week.
Ms. Reed
9/11 Guest Speaker
A big shout out to two heroes right here at Charles Town Middle School, Mrs. Misty Meadows and Mrs. Larissa Caldwell.
Mrs. Meadows one of our sixth grade Social Studies teachers and Mrs. Caldwell, Weston Caldwell’s mother, are two of the many women that were serving in the military at the time of the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001.
These heroes spoke to our 6th grade Social Studies classes telling them about their thoughts and personal experiences on that fateful day. Our students learned a great deal about the meaning of 911 and why we must always remember.
Thank you, Mrs. Caldwell for taking off work to be with us on 9/9/2022 during our 3rd and 4th periods.
Fall Mum Sale
Wednesday, September 21 and Thursday, September 22 from 3pm - 7pm
CTMS Black Student Association
"Kesserian Ingera"
The Black Student Association began last week with an amazing turn out of students seeking to learn more of their special heritage and its significant cultural contributions to this world. Led by Acting President-Jeremiah Brown and Acting Vice-President-Timia Perry, everyone came with open minds, open hearts, and a willingness to participate in safe spaces created for all students.
The student-led organization will meet each month to focus on an essential element of Black History and becoming more culturally responsive. We will also collaborate with the local NAACP in sponsoring more events like the beginning of school Youth Block Party, trip to National Museum of African American History, student visits to Hampton or Norfolk Universities, attend the premier of Black Panther II, and more! Come listen and learn with us.
TRIVIA: The first student to room 32 with a correct interpretation of the header and the name of the African nation who is credited with the phrases origin wins a prize!
