Principal's Message
Dear Eccles Families and Caregivers,
We have wonderful students and we love our community! Community engagement is one of the reasons why Eccles is such a great place to work and learn. We have two great opportunities to come together as a school community in the next few weeks.
Eccles Movie Night
First, join us tomorrow, Friday January 26, for Eccles Movie Night! Thank you to our Eccles PTA for putting this event on. Students voted and selected Super Mario Bros Move for our viewing pleasure. Doors open at 6:00 pm. Please enter through the side doors next to the West parking lot.
Special Person Day
Second, we will host our Special Person Day, also known as Grandparent’s Day, on February 14. We are naming it Special Person Day, so grandparents, aunts, or uncles, or any other special people know that they are welcome to join their student on this day. During the visit, your student’s special person will join them for a classroom activity, lunch, and recess (or a visit to the Scholastic Book Fair). Altogether, this will be an hour of fun school activities.
Each classroom will have a specific arrival time for their special people to join. That schedule will be shared soon. For now, please contact loved ones that may be able to join us on February 14 for Special Person Day.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
Sincerely,
Kelly

Important Assessment Information for Canby Families
Thank you for supporting your child’s participation in the upcoming Oregon Statewide Assessments. Assessment is an important part of each student’s academic experience. Beginning in kindergarten and through grade 12, learners in the Canby School District experience a variety of formative, interim, and summative assessments. Oregon Statewide Assessments are one example of a summative assessment administered in grades 3 through 8, and grade 11. Students in these grade levels are required to participate in English Language Arts and Math assessments annually. In grades 5 and 8, students also participate in Science.
Canby School District, like all districts in Oregon, is striving for 95% or greater student participation. This goal is essential for understanding the depth and breadth of learning for student groups across our schools, and for evaluating programs and resources. Oregon Summative Assessment data provides information to the Canby community and to district teams about our successes or strengths and areas for improvement.
We will be communicating additional information about Oregon Statewide Assessment dates for your students’ grade level and ways to support your student’s success. You can find more information on our district State Assessment webpage. Please reach out to your school principal or classroom teacher if you have further questions. Canby School District appreciates your partnership.
ASPIRE Volunteers
The Canby High School Career Center would like to spread the word about its ASPIRE Volunteer Mentor program. Please see the flyer here for more information.
Library Update
Dear Eccles families,
As our first semester wraps up on January 26th, it is time to round up those overdue and missing library books. Weekly notices are being sent via email.
Any books showing overdue as of December 15th that are still missing at the end of the semester (January 26th) will be considered lost and a replacement book fee will be charged to your student's account. You will need to pay the fee to clear your student's account. If you find the book later, you can receive a refund.
If a student has 3 lost books on their account, they may not check out any more library books. A student can resume checking out books when the replacement fee is paid or when they return the books.
Thank you for your support of the Eccles Library and for helping us round up the books.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Adams
Winter Weather Information
To make sure you’re set to receive information about school delays, or closures, and online learning days, please subscribe to Canby School District on FlashAlert. Now is also a good time to update your text preferences online by listing your phone number.
In the event of an online learning day, elementary schools will begin at 9:30 a.m. Students should watch for Zoom links from their teachers. If students have trouble connecting or need help, they should reach out to their teacher. Canby School District strives to make the most of this valuable educational time, but please know that students will not be penalized if they are unable to connect.
For more information, please see our inclement weather page.
