West Side Core Values Tree
About five years ago, the West Side staff (with the help of Stacy Utterback) created a core values tree, complete with vision and mission statements. These tree posters are hanging throughout the halls and classrooms of West Side. Every week during morning announcements, I like to highlight one value and share a bit about that value. Teachers piggyback off of this, and our guidance counselor does as well in her classroom guidance lessons. So far this year, we have worked on Collaboration, Confidence, Respect, and Relationships. We will finish September with Character and Commitment. In October, we will highlight Inspire, Independence, Engagement, and Achievement. If you want to help at home, ask your student what he or she has learned about this week's core value. We believe these values are transformative, and we look forward to our kids' growth as we continue to highlight them!

Happy Autumn!
October Guidance topics will include:
- Continuing Citizenship lessons regarding the following...
- Digital Footprints - Internet Safety and the trail we leave behind
- Respect
- A visit from the Washakie Coalition Prevention and W-Club kids from Worland High School (either in Oct. or Nov.)
I encourage you to continue these conversations with your kids and also to play games with them daily (even for just 20 min)! They love the connection, it is fun, it builds relationships, and it is easier for them to talk to you about important things.
