Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!
Wow! What a busy week at Canby High School. First, thank you for your flexibility and perseverance as we made a digital learning day possible. Overall, we were impressed with the students’ attendance, participation, and engagement. We know that in person school is best, but are blessed to have a way to keep the learning going. Students should contact their teachers if they had trouble connecting or have questions.
Despite the weather, our sports and activities had a very successful week. Our grapplers wrestled to an 8th place state finish with Tyler Konold earning 2nd, Ethan Ensrud earning 3rd, and Gideon Noss and Jackson Doman each taking home a 6th place finish! Congratulations wrestlers!
Men’s and Women’s Basketball both celebrated senior nights and earned a trip to the state playoffs. The cheerleading team also honored their seniors this past week. Senior nights are always so special as we know the time and commitment athletes and their families dedicate to their sport. We are so proud of our seniors who represented CHS so well over the years. Check out the first round of their state playoffs this weekend. The Women play at Silverton on Friday, and Men play at Summit on Saturday.
FFA, Speech/Debate, and Choir also had successful weeks. FFA competed in sectionals to qualify for state, and Speech and Debate had students earn merit awards in the National Speech and Debate Honor Society. See individual results below. The Choir qualified for the state competition as well. Congrats to our talented students!
Another awesome showcase of our students’ talents is the Spring Musical, The Little Mermaid. A two week run begins tonight. Thanks to Leadership, Culinary Arts, Eco Club, CHS Boosters, and CSD Food Services, we were able to host local senior citizens for a spaghetti dinner and a sneak peek dress rehearsal. What a fun event! See below for more information about the this show, and I hope to see you there!
Have a wonderful week!
Best,
Cari Sloan

Important Information
Inclement Weather Info

Elementary school families, this means you will see iPads come home with your students today since questionable weather is forecasted. It’s important that students bring the iPads back to school with them on the next in-person instructional day.
In the event of an online learning day, Canby High School will begin at 8:40 a.m. and all other schools will begin at 9:30 a.m. Students should watch for Zoom links from their teachers. If students have trouble connecting or need help, they should reach out to their teacher. Canby School District strives to make the most of this valuable educational time, but please know that students will not be penalized if they are unable to connect.
To make sure you’re set to receive information about school delays, or closures, and online learning days, please subscribe to Canby School District on FlashAlert. Now is also a good time to update your text preferences online by listing your phone number.

About the play:
In a magical kingdom beneath the sea, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney's The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. This fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including "Under the Sea," "Kiss the Girl" and "Part of Your World."
Ariel, King Triton's youngest daughter, wishes to live as a human, a world she connects with more than her ocean origins. As she explores the surface, she finds herself in love with the human Prince Eric. Misunderstood by her overprotective father, Ariel bargains with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs – but the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order both above and under the sea.
Speech and Debate
The National Speech and Debate Association awards points for every student every time they give a speech in competition. Students have to compete in multiple tournaments (and often in multiple events) in order to earn the 25 points required to receive a membership in NSDA and a degree of merit. We are honored to have 2 students who have earned a degree of merit. Congratulations to Isaiah Dalrymple and Leo Newell.
Schedules
We have all of our athletics schedule all in one place on our master athletic schedule. This includes game times, locations, and bus departure times. Attendance at CHS
To ensure the accuracy and efficiency of our attendance process, please remember the following guidelines:
If your student needs to leave class for an appointment or because they are sick, inform the attendance office 30 MINUTES PRIOR to leave time. This will help us ensure that your student receives a note to leave class in a timely manner. Students will not be excused without a note.
Pre-Excused Absence: For any anticipated absence that will be more than three days, students are expected to pick up a Pre-Excused Absence Form from Jessie Munoz at the Attendance Office.
To report an absence, call Jessie Munoz at our attendance line at 503-263-7210 or email chs-attendance@canby.k12.or.us.
Students have 48 hours to have unexcused absences excused. Students may lose the opportunity to make up work for credit due to unexcused absences. Please report an absence as soon as possible.
Remember that attendance matters and students who attend class regularly are more likely to stay on track, graduate on time, learn deeply, and get the most from their high school experience.

Senior families can put a Senior Ad in the yearbook! Please see this LINK for more information and how to get your ad in the yearbook.
The senior schedule is linked on the “Graduation Information” page. Please check back often for updates. Again, seniors need to watch their emails for graduation information and updates.
