Rio Hondo ISD partnered with the City of Rio Hondo during the annual Bridge Fest celebration. The school district supported the city by loading up and delivering all of the tables and chairs for the event free of charge saving the city thousands of dollars in rental fees. Special thanks to Mr. Xavier Hernandez and the entire maintenance staff for loading up, delivering, picking up and returning all of this equipment. Campus and district staff celebrated Bridge Fest with the community by providing fun activities for the students and passing out free school supplies. Seen above are the RHMS Cheerleaders leading the crowd in Bobcat school spirit! Rio Hondo Community Prayer Walk
Pastor Danny Anderson of The Bridge Rio Hondo Baptist Church organized a group of community members to pray at each school district building location for the incoming school year. Representing RHISD were School Board President, Jaime Lopez, and Board Member, Eddie Guerra and the School District Superintendent. Our prayer is that God will lead, safeguard, and bless our schools and community with His supreme presence, love, and protection throughout the new school year. "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and heal their land." RHISD Students Get "FREE" Haircuts
Many thanks to professional barbers, Anthony Claudio and Arturo Castillo, of "FADES, TAPERS & MORE" who collaborated with our school district officials to provide free haircuts during Bridge Fest to all of our students in preparation for the new school year. When School Board Member, Mr. Eddie Guerra, called me to ask if if his friends from the barber shop could do this for our students, the answer was a resounding "YES!!! ABSOLUTELY!" Thanks to our awesome relationships with the community, many of the households in our district were blessed with professional hair cuts "free of charge" saving them a lot of cash! Thank you for blessing our community with your talents and time, Anthony and Arturo! We appreciate you! District Goal #3

Texas Education Agency Awards RHISD with a "B" FIRST Rating

The FIRST (Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas) rating identifies school districts for being accountable and fiscally responsible for public funds in order to provide the maximum allocation possible to positively impact instruction and support student outcomes. "Before" Pic of RHISD Maintenance Van Roof
Over the summer, the RHISD maintenance department has been working on improving our "image" out in the public. Our "white" fleet has been looking a little more like the color of "rust"....largely because IT IS.... actual rust as seen in this pic.
"During" Pic of Maintenance Van Paint Job
This shipping van was sanded down by some of our maintenance crew and bus drivers namely: Hociel Garcia, Eric Lopez, and Bob Cantu! Thanks, guys, for all of the prep work you did to prepare this very reliable vehicle for its new paint job.
"After" Pic of Maintenance Van

AFJROTC Program Discontinued Due to Low Cadet Enrollment
The United States Air Force holds a strict student enrollment requirement for all AFJROTC high school programs. For a program to remain open and supported by the USAF, high schools with less than 1,000 students must maintain a cadet enrollment of at least 10% of the high school's total population. RHHS P-TECH has a total student enrollment of approximately 500 students which requires a minimum cadet enrollment of 50 to maintain funding and support from the USAF. Unfortunately, RHHS P-TECH has not been able to meet the cadet enrollment requirement for the past five years and ended last school year with only 34 cadets in the program. Entering into the current school year, cadet enrollment was down to only 16 students with the possibility of an additional 8 students coming in from the middle school as freshman; however, this number is still less than half of the requirement to keep the program open and supported by the USAF. Due to this, Colonel Harmon decided to submit his resignation in June of this past summer citing that the RHHS P-TECH AFJROTC unit was no longer a viable program. We are grateful to Colonel Harmon and SSG Davila for all of the activities and efforts they implemented to revive student interest in the AFJROTC program over the course of the past year. To our 16 cadets who remained consistently enrolled in the AFJROTC program, thank you for your service and your unwavering commitment to your school and country. We look forward to seeing you continue to serve proudly in other RHHS P-TECH programs and organizations of your choice throughout the year. God's blessings to you all!
