Principal's Message
Dear BMS Families,
The third and final trimester of the 2022-23 school year is off to a great start and we're looking forward to signs of spring!
Included below is important information about the upcoming state Forward exam. The Forward exam is an opportunity to get a more complete picture of your child's progress on grade level skills and identify those areas where more support is needed. With that in mind, encourage your child to give their very best effort on the exam. Additionally, please remind your child to get a good night's rest and to eat a healthy breakfast to be best prepared for test days.
We appreciate your support,
Mrs. Herrick
Vacation Days
There is no school for students on Friday, April 7th.
On the initial 2022-23 calendar, Monday, April 10th was also a vacation day, however, with the number of snow days this winter, that day has been added back and will be a regular school day.
BMS Track Season
BMS track and field practice begins on Monday, April 3rd. Practices are 3:30pm - 5:00pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Seventh and eighth grade students may participate in track and field.
Talent Show
BMS Students Complete in Engineering Design Competition!
A team of five seventh-grade students are on their way to compete against twenty other schools at the Regional Engineering Machine Design Competition!
They created a multiple-step machine designed to complete the simple task of turning on a lightbulb, using multiple transfer of energy principles. CESA-10 and the Minnesota State Engineering Center of Excellence hosts an annual Machine Design competition in order to provide students with hands-on experiences that connect the dots between engineering technology and real world application.
While this program enhances technical scientific understanding, it also builds soft skills such as: teamwork, patience, perseverance, communication, and grit.
The Bloomer Middle School team has spent the majority of their lunch and recess time, as well as after school hours, developing their machine. Although they are a junior division team, they have put in the work and required steps to be competitors even at the high school level.
Their machine contains chemical reactions, electrical circuits, pulley systems, as well as inclined planes. Beyond their machine, they have developed a team journal detailing their experiences and what they have learned throughout the building process. Lastly, they have been perfecting their public speaking abilities to prepare for their presentation in front of the judges.
Teams that compete and rank in the top 4 at the regional competition will earn their spot at the state championship taking place at Anoka Technical College in Minnesota the following month. This team couldn’t be more deserving of that opportunity!
PreVenture Groups Meeting at BMS
PreVenture groups have been meeting weekly at BMS for the past several weeks.
PreVenture is a prevention program for youth aged 12-18 to reduce the risk of substance use and promote mental health. The workshops are designed to help students learn useful coping skills and set long term goals so that they can thrive in all areas of their lives.
Thank you to school counselors, Ms. Clements and Ms. Boese, and to staff of Chippewa County Human Services, for the time and effort they have dedicated to bringing these activities to participating students at BMS
