🎵Notes about the Classes🎵
The Vocal Power Class is busy rehearsing their Vocal Showcase which is premiering next week on Tuesday, March 7. Start your day off with a song! Their show is at 8:15 a.m. Parents, if you email the office a picture of your driver's license or state id, they will have your visitor's pass ready for you!!
In other classes, Digital Music Students are researching their favorite composers this week. In Music 6, students are tackling Broadway songs, performing the song of their choice for their classmates, complete with choreography! Keyboard students are recording their final songs, showing off their skill. Look forward to clips in the following weeks!

Sound System Upgrade
We need to upgrade our sixteen year old sound system. Six of our microphone units are no longer useable. We are switching to a digital microphone system that will prevent feedback and improve the quality of sound. We will also be able to use rechargeable batteries which will be a huge savings. We use our Sound System for the Musical, Vocal Power, and Music Theater Workshop classes as well as additional performances. Please participate in our fundraisers whenever possible! THANK YOU ALL. Special thanks to Donna Zorba-O'Brien for organizing the Dine to Donate at D'Agostino's Pizza and Pub Niles! D'Agostino's is donating 10% of all sales from Tuesday, March 7!
On Monday, February 27, Mitchell, who performed the role of Crutchie in Newsies, visited our rehearsal! Mitchell watched both casts and shared inspirational feedback!
We finished our Sets!!!
We do not need to paint on Sunday. Thank you to all those who volunteered!

Musical Rehearsal and Performance Policies
What to Know Before We Start
COVID-19 Quarantine Restrictions: Per district policy, any student who is quarantined will need to follow district rules regarding that quarantine. We cannot change the dates of the show or rehearsals because someone is quarantined/tests positive for COVID-19. This includes any district guideline that would require a student to quarantine. Student safety is a high priority.
Grades: If a student is placed in Spark, they must exit within two weeks to still be in the cast. If they are still in Spark by February 14th, they cannot be in the musical and will be recast by the director.
Attendance: If a student has 2 unexcused absences, they cannot be in the musical. An absence would be unexcused if the student does not inform the director. As long as the absence is communicated within 24-48 hours of the rehearsal, the student will be excused. Illness, missing school, and prior commitments made before accepting a role are all considered excused absences.
Expectations: Students cast are expected to attend rehearsals on time, come prepared, and rehearse diligently. After three warnings a student may be recast in their role.
Students who are exempt from PE for medical reasons may not dance or move items during a show depending on doctor/school nurse permission and guidance. Student safety is a high priority.
Since Newsies Jr is a period piece, if a student is planning on cutting or dyeing their hair during the duration of the show they must notify the director in writing before February 1. This does not include getting hair trimmed. Notification allows for a wig to be purchased if needed. Students who do not comply may be recast.
Acrobats must submit a video showing what they can do and emailed permission from a parent.
All Cast members must be able to be photographed! We have lots of people taking pictures for publicity, and the yearbook. If you cannot be photographed, crew would be a better choice.
7/8 Singers and Showsies News
Save the Date!
Our Music in the Parks contest is May 6th, 2023 all day
- please save the date!!!
If your student is in band and/or orchestra, students will able to perform with all groups and students will only pay one fee. Band and Orchestra Members pay by check. New this year, Chorus members who are not in any other ensemble pay in School Bucks. Both 7/8 Singers and Showsies will compete! I coordinate with the Band and Orchestra directors to make sure that our times do not overlap. All of our competitions meet at the same school, Viking Middle School.
We are competing at:
10:20 a.m. District Honors Chorus (Emerson and Lincoln 6/7/8 Singers)
10:40 a.m. Emerson Show Choir
11:00 Lincoln Show Choir
After we compete students may choose to go to Great America with us. Students who do not want to attend Great America will need to arrange transportation home. The fees in School Bucks reflect the different options.
Parent Chaperones are needed!
This is activity is optional, but a great singing and performance opportunity for students. We sing/perform for collegiate choral professors and they give us feedback and possibly a trophy. After competing, students can choose to go to Great America with us for a day at the amusement park. More information will be coming soon. I will be sending a link for t-shirt orders soon. (same t-shirt as last year)!
