SPRING 2023
A Message From Mrs. Hoffmann, Principal
I hope you and your wonderful families had the privilege/opportunity to relax and recharge over spring break as we head into the homestretch of the 2022-2023 school year. I don't know about you, but I can't believe we only have 6.5 weeks of school left until another school year comes to a close and we watch our amazing kiddos progress to yet another grade/milestone. In the hustle and bustle of a busy year, I it's important to pause and reflect on what a truly amazing community we have at Madison: our students, parents, families, teachers, and staff are one-of-a-kind, and I feel a sense of pride and gratitude every day I step foot in Madison Elementary. I hope you do, too. Let's continue to rally around our #MadisonFamily for the short (but what I'm sure will be great!) weeks we have left together before we head into summer break and finish out the 2022-23 school year in true Madison fashion -- STRONG!
MADISON CALENDAR
Upcoming Events
PTO Readathon Celebration - Friday, April 14th
ILEARN - April 19th through May 3rd
All students in grades 3-6 will participate in Indiana's standardized assessment, "ILEARN," from next Wednesday, April 19th through Wednesday, May 3rd (and due to their Lily Center field trip, 3rd grade students will begin on Tuesday, April 18th). A picture showing the content various grades are tested over is included below. Students will generally test from 10-11:30 a.m. each day. Please read the "tips" section below to help your Cardinal show up to be their best on test day!
Tips for ILEARN
- Make sure your child gets plenty of rest the night before the test
- Make sure students eat breakfast, whether at home or at school, the morning of testing to help fuel their minds (see note about breakfast below)
- Encourage your student to do their best! Test anxiety can be real. While we want students to "show what they know" and take their time, we also want students to know that all that matters is that they try their best. They have been working hard this year and got this!
- On the morning of the test, your child needs to get up in plenty of time so he/she won't feel rushed.
To help students fuel their minds and have a hearty breakfast in preparation for ILEARN, WCS Food Services will provide a FREE BREAKFAST to all students (k-6) who go to the cafeteria during breakfast time from April 17th-April 28th. As a reminder, the daily breakfast schedule is also included below for those that may not typically get breakfast who may wish to.
Madison Music Program for Grades 1 & 2 - Thursday, April 27th
The Madison music program for grades 1 & 2 will be held on Thursday, April 27th at the Performing Arts Center at Warsaw High School. Please arrive by 6:15 p.m. and have your child follow the signs to their meeting place. Mr. Bolduc would like students to dress their best, and the program should last about 30 minutes. We can't wait to hear our Cardinals get their groove on!
Madison Robotics Showcase - Saturday, April 29th
The WCS Robotics showcase will be taking place on Saturday, April 29th at the TRAC from 9:15-11:15 a.m. We can't wait to see our Robotics students shine! Come on out and show your support and learn what robotics club is all about!
Summer School Registration - Deadline May 12
If your student is recommended for one of the various summer school programs available through WCS, you will be receiving a letter home with additional details. Registration for summer school is completed through PowerSchool this year. Be on the lookout in the coming weeks! The registration deadline is May 12th. Please contact our office if you have any questions.
PTO Officer Nominations/Elections - April/May
We are always looking for more parents to get involved! The Madison PTO is a wonderful way to do that, and they are always looking for more parent involvement. Nominations for elected officer positions take place this month before the PTO election at the May PTO meeting. Contact the Madison PTO for more details.
Recent News!
On March 11, our 1st and 2nd graders had the exciting opportunity to meet and hear from widely-esteemed children's book author, Troy Cummings, through Read Across Kosciusko County. Mr. Cummings books include "Can I Be Your Dog?", "Can I be Your Kitty?" and the "Notebook of Doom" series. A big "thank you" to the Kosciusko County Community Foundation for making it happen!

Cardinal Kindness Coupon Winners
Continuing our "Cardinal Friday Rallies" - a whole-school gathering in the gym, whereby we will recognize students who win our "Cardinal Kindness Coupon" drawing for the week, review expectations (as needed!), and generally celebrate together. As a reminder, our "Cardinal Kindness Coupons" are a new initiative this year to celebrate student kindness. When a student earns a "Cardinal Kindness Coupon" for being caught in the act of being kind, the student places their coupon in a grade-level bucket in the cafeteria. Students' names are drawn each week, and the reward for our winners varies.
