Monday, October 9- NO SCHOOL for UTSC Students!

Happy Friday!

I am bringing this newsletter to you early because I would like to remind everyone that we do not have school Monday. Our staff will be collaborating and working together for a professional development day. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as our staff learn to better serve and instruct our students. For me, it is a welcomed sight that our corporation takes the time to support our staff to be continuously learning. We are very fortunate!

Because of these values of reflecting, learning, growing, and sharing our knowledge with our school community, UTSC has had some major accomplishments:

• Union Center Elementary School named 2023 National Blue Ribbon School (353 schools recognized in the USA, and only 11 in Indiana!)
• Wheeler High School Cognia Accredited
• 95% Graduation Rate with over 80% of WHS seniors earning college credits with a 3.5 or more GPA
• Top 10 Best District for Teachers in Indiana
• #1 in Porter County for I-Read-3 Scores
• Mr. Tim Brunton named Middle School Athletic Director of the Year 2023
• Best in Porter County for ILEARN scores
• 100% Certified Teachers

So many wonderful accolades, and yet our greatest accomplishment is still working with Every Student, Every Day!

These students will join Mrs. Hankins at Principal's Breakfast on Thursday, October 5th. They also have a Smart Cookie Coupon for lunch this week!

Did you know we get our delicious donut breakfast and smart cookies either donated from Family Express or purchased with the help of our JSE PTO? Our PTO graciously saves some funds to help support this special morning. Thank you!

Back by popular demand, students will write a descriptive and persuasive writing telling me what I should be for Halloween. Challenges are due Thursday, October 19th.

Conferences will be held on Tuesday, October 24. You can select in-person, virtual, or a phone conference. This day is an eLearning day through Canvas for our students. Please complete the form to sign up for a conference time with your child's teachers.

Since it's also an eLearning day, we do have Chromebooks for each student. If you would like your child to take a Chromebook home or not we need to know. Please fill out this form so we can adequately prepare them.

Ms. Bobin is one of our amazing teachers here at JSE rocking it out teaching first grade. She works hard to help support our students learn and grow their brains! Ms. Bobin helps give our firsties experiences in learning, being organized, and making great gains. We love having Ms. Bobin here with us at JSE and appreciate all of her hard work for our kids!

Get involved with PTO! We have a great group of family volunteers that do so much for our school. We could not do many of the amazing things we do for students without their support.

Meetings are the first Tuesday of every month at 6pm at the JSE Library. You may bring your children too.

PTO is helping us raise money to replace the slide for the playground. The Butter Braid fundraiser will help this process. The top seller will receive a $100 Zao Island gift card! Everyone will get Albanese Gummies for selling.

Registration for Wheeler Youth Basketball is coming soon. The recreational league is for students grades K-6 and will host Saturday games at the Wheeler High School Fieldhouse. Check out www.wheeleryouthsports.com next week for more information.

WHS announces UTSC students (K-12) get in FREE to all high school athletic events when they show their student ID at the gate or wear bearcat colors.

Elementary Wresting is 6-7pm Tuesdays September through October. These are free workouts for kids getting into wrestling or continuing to wrestle. If you have any questions, contact Coach Cook at jcook@union.k12.in.us
