Hello Middle School!
August 18, 2022
We are thrilled to welcome you back to Pathfinder K-8 for the upcoming 2022-23 year!
This year we have some big changes K-8! To support our scholars throughout their 9 years at Pathfinder we have developed a master schedule that allows for a larger menu of middle school elective courses. Please explore the course descriptions below, then complete the Pathfinder K-8 Semester 1 Electives Forms.
The Electives Selection form will be open until Monday, August 29th at 5:00PM.
Please note, not all courses are available for all grade levels.
A note to 6th Grade...
All 6th graders are required to take Transition to Middle School during their first semester. Transition to Middle School will include guidance through executive functioning skills, digital citizenship along with relevant technology instruction to support core classes, and time allotted for the application of these skills aligned with current course work. For this reason, 6th graders will have one elective choice (Art, Introductory Band, PE) for the first semester. You can look forward to lots more exciting options during second semester!
FAQ
Do 7th and 8th graders get 2 electives this year? If so, do they select only 2 options for what they want in the Electives form?
Yes, 7th and 8th graders are choosing two electives this year. This elective choice is only for the first semester. The form allows scholars to prioritize their choices - they will not be able to select only two.
Are students required to take PE?
PE is a state requirement. However, a waiver can be substituted to allow for alternative PE credits (sports team, independent study, etc.)
Are students choosing one year-long or two semester-long electives, or do they get two electives for each semester?
Students will have two electives during both semester 1 and semester 2. Note in the descriptions the courses that are meant to be yearlong as you are selecting electives.
Premier Band vs Introductory Band. We made the assumption that kids who have done 1 + years of band previously should select premier band rather than intro band but not sure if this is correct.
This is an accurate assumption.
We were just reading through the middle school electives and noticed that string instruments were not mentioned in the description for Introductory Band. I am assuming that this is a mistake. Can you confirm?
Yes! Strings are totally possible.
