River Rafter News
A weekly newsletter to keep Twain families informed.

Principal's Message
Dear Twain Families,
Read Across America and Career Day was a hit! Thank the Lawndale Teachers Association for purchasing a book for every Twain student. Additionally, I want all of our volunteers who came out and read to our classes and/or talked to our students about their careers - Charlisse Bennett, Mony Sey, Louis Gudiel, Thomas and Indira Witts, XiomaraBodan, Bianca Jacobs Sarah Cortes, Shannon Wessel, Evie Hutton, Sadie Rizzo, Thelma Gonzalez, Michael Brown, Susie Diaz, Cynthia Valdez Navarro, Teresa Gomez and Lisa Jarvis. The impact you made on our River Rafter cannot be overstated!
Congratulations to February’s River Rafters of the month. The winners are Emiliano Noriega (TK/K), Ariana Sills (1st grade), Manuel Ruelas (2nd grade), Nakoa Fitsemanu (3rd grade), Yara AlQudah (4th grade), and Stevie Park (5th). Thank you for being fantastic students who demonstrate OARS with all that you do.
This week’s OARS Classroom Winners are Mrs. Vermillion (3rd grade) and Sra. Seto (1st grade) classes. Our OARS goal of the month was showing outstanding attitude towards staff and peers. I appreciate all of our River Rafters who did their best to reach this goal. Additionally, Sra. Sanchez class won PTA’s Golden Shoe for completing the most laps during Friday morning Walk Club in the month of February.
As we embark on a busy month of testing, assessments, and limited breaks, students begin to experience a lot of emotions and sometimes exhibit maladaptive behaviors. To best support your students please feel free to review helpful resources regarding emotional regulation and stress management here You can even visit Ms. Tucker’s virtual office where coping strategies and mindfulness techniques are available . In addition please view restorative practices our staff engage in when correcting behaviors.
As always, if you have any questions regarding events or other matters, please reach out to us via ClassDojo, e-mail, or call the front office at (310) 675-9134.
Sincerely,
Michael Bosler
Principal

Attendance Matters!
We are excited to begin a new year with new possibilities for success. Attendance is a vital component of your child’s success in school. 80% of student success in school begins with showing up and there is strong evidence that school attendance makes a difference. We encourage students to arrive when our gates open for breakfast at 8 :00 A.M. to ensure they are on time, have breakfast, and are able to play before the bell rings at 8:30 A.M.
If your student(s) cannot attend school, please notify the front office via phone at (310) 675-9134 between 07:45 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. or by completing the Student Absence Form.
