Hello SCC Families,
It's hard to believe that October has arrived, the weather is changing, homecoming has come and gone and we are settling into a routine. Each day I am reminded in small ways that our staff and students are truly amazing people. The atmosphere and culture at SCC are very unique and very special. Why do I say that? Here are some examples.
- Each week I witness multiple examples of students voluntarily helping students with special needs. Whether it be including someone in an activity, providing a helping hand with a locker, or a simple act of kindness like helping them pick something up that they've dropped. Each act brings us closer.
- I have watched staff members go out of their way to make sure that our students come first. Recently, I know of a teacher who took their 30-minute lunch and spent it talking to a student who was struggling with personal concerns.
Those small examples provide a sliver of insight into what I am privileged to witness on a daily basis. SCC is a special place for one reason - the people. We care about each other. That level of care starts at home. Thank you for raising wonderful young men and women. They are the best.
Enjoy the cool weather, candy corn, late-season campfires, change of colors, and all the other small joys that come with the fall season.

PICTURE RETAKES
Thursday, October 3rd
Cahill will be at the high school on Thursday, October 3rd to retake student and staff pictures.
7:45 am - 8:00 am - open pictures in the library.
After 8:00 am - we will call down students in groups.
TEACHEREASE
New Platform for Gradebooks and Report Cards
For several months the administration at SCC has been searching for a better, more interactive way to communicate academic information and progress with our families and students. As part of our district-wide shift to 4K-12 standards-based grading, we found a need for a Learning Management System (LMS) that is easy to use, provides great information for students and supports learning. Last spring we began to investigate a program called TeacherEase. After a deep investigation into the program, we decided to adopt TeacherEase as our LMS platform.
- We will continue to use Skyward for student management (attendance, etc.) and financials. Parents and guardians will still use Family Access to view attendance, schedule conferences, check lunch account balances, update medical records, pay fees, etc.
- TeacherEase will be used for everything related to course information, assignments, standards, gradebooks, report cards, etc.
Next Steps
- Each parent/guardian will receive a "Welcome to TeacherEase" email from me. The email will be sent to whatever email address is located in your Skyward account.
- Near the bottom of the email will be a link that you'll use to create a password for your account.
- Once you've completed this very easy set-up process, you'll have full access to the parent portal.
This is a great system. However, it is new to everyone so as we learn to fully utilize the power of TeacherEase we appreciate your patience, support, and feedback.

PARKING UPDATES
New Parking Areas
HANDICAP PARKING
Multiple designated spots for handicapped parking have been added in front of the auditorium. We are pleased to offer increased easy access to our facilities.Yellow "NO-PARKING" Area Designated
We have added yellow no-parking lines in front of the building (east of the main entrance). This area should remain clear of vehicles at all times. By doing so we are maintaining space for buses and emergency vehicles. In addition, it is a safety measure that has been recommended by our school safety consultants.
Thank you for properly utilizing these areas.

National College Fair
Juniors will be attending the National College Fair at the Minneapolis Convention Center on October 2nd. The students will have the opportunity to meet with college representatives from across the country. The bus will be leaving around 8:30 am and students will return around 2:00 pm. Permission slips are in the main office. The cost of the trip is $4.
Junior Meetings
Junior meetings are an integral part of a student's future planning process. New this 2019-20 school year, students and parents will be invited to a Junior Meeting Night at the high school. Counselors and staff will present on important topics related to the future planning process including:
College Applications
Financial aid
Credit requirements
Senior year courses
Scholarships
Youth apprenticeship, etc.
The Junior Meeting Night will be scheduled in March once all Junior's have completed the Futures class. More details coming soon…
Senior Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID and Application Session
The FSA ID is required to fill out the FAFSA regardless of where your student decides to attend college.
On October 7th at St. Croix Central High School, your student will have the opportunity to create their Federal Student Aid ID, which is a required application step for most colleges. The FSA ID confirms your student’s identity when accessing financial aid information and electronically signing federal student aid documents. This is the first step towards completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which determines eligibility for financial aid nationwide.
Representatives from WITC will host the group session on October 7th during 8th and 9th hour. Students will create their FSA ID and have the opportunity to apply to WITC using a coupon code that will waive the $30 application fee. The coupon code is only valid on that day.
To successfully create an FSA ID, your student will need:
social security number
personal email address
must have access after high school graduation (can only be associated with one FSA ID)
parent email address is not recommended
Please make sure your child(ren) are prepared with the above information.
Changes to Advanced Placement (AP)
The College Board has made some changes to AP registration and ordering. The following are the dates and deadlines to remember:
November 1st: Students should speak with their AP teacher if they are considering not taking the AP exam.
Students can start making payment to the main office for their exam (s)
$94/exam
November 8th: Payments for AP exams are due. Any exams ordered after this date will incur an additional $40 late order fee
November 15th: Exams may be canceled after this date, but $40 will be charged per unused exam.

CAPP Students

Fee: $100 per credit (i.e 3 credit course = $300)

Why did you spill the coffee?
"Because someone bumped into me!!!"
Wrong answer.
You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup.
Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea.
*Whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out.*
Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It's easy to fake it until you get rattled.
*So we have to ask ourselves... “what's in my cup?"*
When life gets tough, what spills over?
Joy, gratefulness, peace, and humility?
Anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions?
Life provides the cup, YOU choose how to fill it.
Today let's work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation; and kindness, gentleness, and love for others.
