Seal of Biliteracy--One of the Goals for Our Spanish Immersion Students
The Spanish Immersion program at Ventana Vista started in the 2009-10 school year. We started with 20 kindergarten students and have grown to have more than 450 immersion students at our school. Not only does our program continue to grow, but we know that it is working!
The students from that first class of immersion students from Ventana Vista are graduating from high school this year. Each of these students who took the Arizona Seal of Biliteracy assessment received the highest level of recognition and received the CFSD GOLD Seal. Read below to find out more about this special recognition:
The Arizona Seal of Biliteracy is an award made by Catalina Foothills School District and the Arizona Department of Education to recognize graduating seniors who have attained proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing in English and at least one other world language. The Seal will be placed on an eligible student’s diploma and will also be noted on the student’s transcript. Students who earn this award will also be recognized by the Catalina Foothills School District Governing Board.
The Seal of Biliteracy is important because it:
- Recognizes a student’s proficiency in English and another language;
- Signals evidence of a student’s readiness for college and career, and for engagement as a global citizen;
- Provides students with a way to document marketable global competencies that they have developed;
- Recognizes the skills of multilingualism and multiculturality as strong assets in today’s global society;
- Informs colleges/universities and employers about a student’s ability to communicate in English and another language and;
- Honors multiple cultures and languages in our community.
Thank you for your commitment to Spanish Immersion education. You are giving your child a gift for a lifetime.

Dine Out
We have one more Dine Out scheduled for all day Wednesday, May 25th at Sundaze Frozen Yogurt on Sunrise and Swan! Celebrate the last day of school, and cool off with some delicious frozen yogurt.
We have raised around $2,000 on dine outs alone this year, so thank you for your continued support of our school.
We are looking for a new dine out chair/co-chair for next year. If you're interested please email Nicole at Nicoleventanavistaffo@gmail.com
FundRAISE for Shade
Because of your fundraising efforts during STEM-a-thon and our silent auction, we have raised $28,000. At our FFO meeting this morning we voted, and passed, to use that money for large umbrellas in the new drop off/pick up loop. Be on the lookout for the new shade structures next year!
Committee Chairs
We need YOUR help! All the "extra" things (Mileage Club, Dine Outs, Sweetheart Dance, etc.) our school does wouldn't happen without our amazing parent volunteers. Please fill out the form below if you're interested in helping us out next year. There's different levels of commitment and letting us know you're interested right now isn't automatically committing you to anything.
