Red Ribbon Week
JES Hall-O-Ween Trick or Treating: October 29th
It is that time of year, time for our JES, Hall-O-Ween School-Wide Trick or Treats event. We will be going to our fellow classes to be tricked or treated-socially distanced of course. We will visit classrooms to let students grab their loot. Be careful though, Mrs. Ogden may be out to steal your candy…so everyone needs to come dressed up, so she will not know who you are.
We will be having a costume contest and a pumpkin decorating contest. Remember NO SCARY COSTUMES, ACCESSORIES or MASKS!!!
We will have a costume parade for grades PK-1 beginning at 8:45. During the parade, our judges will choose one costume winner. Afterward, our judges will judge grades 2-5. Each homeroom teacher will send their top costume pick from their class to the commons area for judging. One winner will be chosen and awarded a spooktacular prize. (One winner from PK-1 and one winner 2-5 age groups.)
PARENTS - Please help us with this fun event by donating three bags of candy and or small treats to your child’s class. Please send individually wrapped items only. Please do not send any candy containing nuts due to allergies!! You may begin sending in candy as soon as possible. We know we have a few weeks, but we want to make sure our entire school has enough goodies to share.
Literary Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest
Pick your favorite book character and decorate a pumpkin just like them!. Be creative! Your pumpkin does not have to be round and perfectly shaped. In fact, an oddly shaped pumpkin may be the perfect thing to capture your character’s appearance and personality. Dress them up! What a perfect way to use old baby clothes, hats, shoes, etc. and to dig through grandma’s fabric scraps! Glue or velcro dots may also be used to attach items. Bring out the personality of your character by adding yarn, construction paper, pipe cleaners, etc. to decorate your pumpkins.
Additional Guidelines:
Include a card with the following information:
1. Student’s name
2. Name of the book
3. Name of the character from the book that their pumpkin represents.
Carved Pumpkins will not be accepted! Real pumpkins are to be painted or decorated with acrylic paints. Other paints, such as tempera or watercolor, will NOT adhere to the pumpkin without bubbling or peeling. NO HOLE PUNCHES IN REAL PUMPKINS—NO PINS OR STAPLES, ETC. Real pumpkins begin to deteriorate immediately if they are punctured so please be careful in your assembly process. Pumpkins that begin to deteriorate will have to be thrown away.
We will accept decorated pumpkins from October 25th-27th. Judging will occur on the 28th. Grade level winners will be announced on October 29th at the end of the day.
