Fabulous First Grade
Welcome to Week 5! Thank you to all who sent in photos from Spirit Week. It was a lot of fun seeing all of you in your crazy hats and pajamas. This week we will be back to our regular academic schedule of assignments Keep an eye out for pre-recorded and live teaching sessions.
Remember to look at the Instructional Plan and create a schedule each day for your child. The students should be completing assignments each day in Google Classroom. We are using a new engagement tracker to list students who are completing the work. Therefore, work must be completed by the following day by 12:00 pm. Example: Work assigned on Monday must be completed and turned in by Tuesday at 12pm.
We want to thank all the parents for their hard work and patience!
Sensational Second Grade
This week, students will listen and read along to the folk tale: Anansi Goes Fishing.
Students will compare and contrast the two main characters in the story. In addition,
we will focus on compound words and writing narrative poetry.
Students have been subtracting 2-digit numbers with regrouping. This week we will use this skill when analyzing and solving multistep word problems.
Our PBL, (Project-based learning) asks, how can we as city developers plan for future changes in New York City? We will learn about New York City over time and think about the needs for the future of New York City. By the end of this unit, students will present their 21st century designs and inventions.
On Friday, students will watch a video and complete a Science Pre-assessment. This pre-assessment helps us understand what our students already know about a topic. It helps guide our instruction.
Over the next several weeks, Students will learn about interdependent relationships in ecosystems. We will look at how animals and plants depend on their surroundings and on each other to grow and thrive.
Don’t forget to have your child join for live instruction at our Google Meets at 1:00 pm daily. More information and the link will be posted on our Google Class Stream.
Please have your children follow the day-by-day instructions for each subject.
Students must log into: Google Classroom- google.com daily.

Fantastic Fourth Grade
Dear Fourth Grade Families,
We are now entering week 5 of our remote learning! Students continue doing a great job on assignments and showing a strong work ethic. We encourage students to keep setting goals for themselves as we work through these unique times.
Next week will be our regular instruction as Spring Break will be over.
Please be aware that we meet with students at 11am daily for our LIVE meeting. During this time, we go over the schedule for the day and provide an explanation of assignments that will be assigned. If students are to miss the LIVE meeting, the recording of the meeting will be posted on Google Classroom. We want to maintain a positive and welcoming learning environment and we recommend students to ask questions if they are unclear about anything. Their teachers are there for them. Feel free to reach out if there are any questions.
Thank you for all of your help!

Fearless Fifth Grade
Dear Grade 5 Parents and Families,
Last Monday, we received a letter from the mayor and chancellor confirming that schools will be closed through the end of this school year. This is sad news for all of us. We miss the students terribly and we miss collaborating with each other in person.
However, we will work hard to finish this school year with the same energy, positivity, and hope that we would express if we were still in the building.
We are now in our fifth of what will be fourteen weeks of remote learning. We have come to believe that what matters most, and what will make us most successful, is maintaining as much direct communication with students and families as possible. So please, if you have not completed the Remote Learning Feedback form, please do so.
As always, feel free to reach out to us via email with any questions or concerns.
Stay safe,
The Fifth-Grade Team
From the Coaches; Johnson & Keppel
Dear Students, Parents and Guardians,
The Physical Education Department hopes that everyone is staying safe and well. Remember to keep practicing our social distancing.
We have a couple friendly reminders for the week:
1. Please remember to check google classroom and the check the under the cluster teacher that you have for that day.
2. Don’t forget to submit and upload all work to us through google docs or any of the attached documents.
3. We are now LIVE, please don’t forget to check out your PE teacher’s stream for when you can catch Mr. Keppel and Mr. Johnson discussing the lessons.
All assignments will be posted on Google Classroom and they are designed to provide physical activity while in a home setting. On Google Classroom, please go to the your Physical Education Teachers Section, Click on classwork and scroll down your grade level.. These activities are meant to be fun. It would be great if parents or guardians participated (not mandatory) with their child. We also are having weekly challenges. Please look for postings about challenges and we would love to see your child upload a video of themselves performing the challenge.
Please stay safe. Have a happy and healthy day.

From the Music Man
As we begin our fifth week of remote learning I want to highlight the amazing work our students have done over the past weeks. Their resilience and incredible courage and tenacity for excellence has been shown in the work they submit. This week we continue to push our students’ critical thinking by looking at music from different perspectives and evolution from the past, to present and future. I ask that you continue to work with your child to experience music through various forms of disciplines. Thank you for all your hard work and on going support. Know that we’re here to support you and your love ones through this very difficult time.
Sincerely,
Mr. Rustrian

Time for Bed Yet?
From now through the end of the month, parents can call the Bedtime Hotline (877-7-MICKEY) so their kids can hear a special goodnight message from their favorite Disney characters including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, and Goofy. Disney hopes the call will give kids something to look forward to at bedtime, according to Fox 35 Orlando. This is the third consecutive year that Disney has activated this hotline, and it couldn't have come at a better time.
Disney Bedtime Hotline also launched a variety of free sleep activity cards including Adventures with Mickey & Donald and Bow Much Fun with Minnie & Daisy.
