From Mr. Bachmeier's Desk
It is hard to believe that one month of school has eclipsed and we are now looking into October. I guess the adage that time flies when you are having fun is very true here at DL-B! Looking back at August and September, we now have our routines and we start to get into what I call the “groove” of school. High School students should have a handle on the expectations of their classes and elementary students by this time also know what their classroom teacher is looking for from them.
As I look at October the first item that comes to mind is homecoming week, as it is an action-packed week here at the school. We will hold our coronation ceremony on Monday, October 1st in the high school gymnasium at 2:30 PM. The girls’ volleyball team will be playing at home versus Berthold on Thursday, October 4th at 7:00 PM. We also will be having spirit dress-up days that whole week, and our traditional parade will be held in Burlington this year with it beginning at United Community Bank on Friday, October 5th at approximately 4:00 PM. The Laker Booster Club will be hosting tailgate festivities at the high school before the football game versus Nedrose at 7:00 PM on Friday, October 5th. Homecoming is a great time to come and support extracurricular activities here at Des Lacs – Burlington where you will see our students work hard and overcome obstacles to experience success!
If you have had the opportunity to drive up to the high school, you will see that real progress is being made on our building project! I am proud of our students and staff and their ability to accept change and have a great learning environment with construction going on all the while. This could be a distraction and inconvenience, however, I have found everyone to be upbeat and positive for all the great opportunities that are coming for our students! I know that it may be hard to believe, but we are still aiming for the junior high students to transition up to the high school some time in April. The reason for us to transition and not just start the 2019 school year in Des Lacs, is to allow for construction to begin in Burlington renovating the current junior high wing into kindergarten classrooms and allow the elementary school to be completed prior to the start of the 2019 school year.
In closing, I must remind you that with fall comes cold weather and even snow! We ask that all our students come prepared for the cold weather. Hats, gloves, and coats are a necessity this time of year! I know high school students may not go outside for recess like our elementary students, however, they do wait for buses, drive cars, and walk to school. We ask that if your child has not been wearing these to school to please have them start wearing the proper clothing for the season.
Have a great month!
Sincerely,
Christopher N. Bachmeier
