SME newsletter for families and the community
Dear Parents,
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you in our wonderful Six Mile Elementary school community. This season of gratitude gives us the perfect opportunity to reflect on the many blessings that surround us, and I am truly grateful for the incredible support and partnership we share.
Our school is more than just a building; it is a vibrant and thriving community made up of dedicated educators, enthusiastic students, and, of course, engaged and supportive parents. Your involvement in your child's education is invaluable, and it is evident that our students benefit greatly from the strong bond between home and school.
Thank you for entrusting us with the privilege of nurturing and educating your children. We take great pride in creating a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment where every child can grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Your collaboration with our teachers and staff contributes significantly to the positive and inclusive atmosphere that defines Six Mile Elementary.
This Thanksgiving, as we gather with our loved ones to celebrate and give thanks, I am grateful for the privilege of being part of such an extraordinary school community. I am thankful for the dedication of our teachers, the enthusiasm of our students, and the unwavering support of our parents.
May your Thanksgiving be filled with warmth, joy, and the company of loved ones. We look forward to continuing our partnership and creating many more memorable moments in the upcoming months.
Wishing you and your family a joyful and blessed Thanksgiving!
Warm regards,
Melissa Terry
Best of the Nest
Each month at Six Mile Elementary, we focus on different character traits and talk about ways to show those traits to others. We discuss the trait in morning meeting in our classrooms. We spotlight the trait on the school news show. Mrs. Orr, our guidance counselor, goes into classrooms and does special lessons with the trait. At the end of each month, we have a Best of the Nest party to honor those students who "shine" in that area.
This month, our word is Gratitude. Gratitude is letting others know you see how they have helped you.
Water Absence Days
Please encourage your student to complete all work that was assigned during the two eLearning days. If you have questions about what needs to be completed, please contact your child's teacher.
Ready for the Day? Start the right way!
Being on time to school is a challenge we all face, especially when the whole family is trying to get out of the house and to school on time. Research shows that students who are consistently on time to school often get better grades, have a better attitude about school, and are more likely to graduate from high school. Being on time lets students know the importance of education and teaches the value of arriving promptly. If you are having trouble getting your student out the door, think about what could be causing the delay. Would it help to lay out clothes the night before? Would it help to get up five minutes earlier? We know that some challenges are unavoidable in the morning, but try setting a goal to be at school by 8 each morning. Thank you for your help!
Absence Notes
If your student is absent, you have three days to send a note stating the reason for their absence before it is counted unexcused. You can send a handwritten note or you can email Stephanie Merck at stephaniemerck@pickens.k12.sc.us. You can also email your child's teacher.
When students have accumulated 3 absences in a row without a note, Mrs. Plyler will have to schedule a meeting for an Attendance Conference. Please make sure to get your note in so that this does not happen.
