❄️❄️❄️ Remote Learning Guidelines ❄️❄️❄️
Your students will have their district issued devices sent home on days we are preparing for inclement weather.
We would like for your students to be prepared in the event of shifting to remote learning. We know it can be an inconvenience for our families when we have to cancel school. Whenever possible, EPS tries to make the decision the evening before to allow everyone time to plan. Sometimes changing conditions overnight, simply, make that impossible. In those cases, the EPS goal is to make a decision by 5:30am, so they can communicate it to families no later than 6:00am. EPS will report a school closure through local TV stations, text messages, phone calls, social media platforms, and the EPS website.
Washington Irving teachers are prepared to transition to remote learning, if needed. Teachers have been working with students to ensure they understand how to use their devices for remote learning. In the event of inclement weather and remote learning, please do not stress if you do not have power, wi-fi access, etc. We ask that you communicate issues to your child's teacher when possible to do so. It is possible that teachers are also without power or that technology may not work. We will all be practicing flexibility and patience.
Stay Warm!
We wish you well,
Mrs. Zeiler and Mrs. Lonberg
Elementary Guidelines
- Teachers will have all directions and assignments for the day posted on their Canvas/SeeSaw page and emailed by 9:00am.
- The elementary site will notify parents through an email the site’s Google Meet schedule as well as some directions for student work during remote learning.
- Students should expect a 20 minute learning activity for each subject.
- Teachers will be available via email during work hours to answer questions.
- Besides some assignments, most instruction will be conducted through SeeSaw (grades PK-3) and Canvas (grades 4-5).
- Students on IEPs will receive guidance from their Teacher of Record and follow contingency plans as stated in the IEP.
- Student attendance will be coded present for days in which they complete required assignments in Seesaw/Canvas, as well as any paper/pencil activities.
- Students will be given the number of remote days, plus 1 in-person learning day to complete assignments. This ensures students have access to the internet and the opportunity to ask teachers questions. Due dates without penalty should follow this timeline. For example, if school is remote Wednesday & Thursday, students would also have Friday to complete work, with assignments due the following instructional day (Monday).
