How to Embed Anything in Canvas!
(Almost)
What is an embed code?
An embed code can be used to bring a web object into another site, like Canvas. Many programs that do not offer a direct connection yet, offer a way to generate an embed code. You can copy the embed code and paste it in the HTML editor in Canvas.
How do I get to the HTML Editor in Canvas?
- Above the RCE (Rich Content Editor), you will see the button to click on to switch to the HTML Editor (see image below)
- After you click the HTML editor, the RCE toolbar goes away
- This is where is paste your code
Redirect Tool
You can also use the Redirect Tool, from the App list, to add links directly to your course navigation.
What can I embed in Canvas?
Anything (Almost)!

Limitations
- If a website does not allow their site to work within another, the page will appear blank when you try to use it in Canvas.
- If a site is not a secure site, http instead of https, "s" meaning secure, a small shield will appear in the omnibox (place where the website url is located). You can still use it, you will need to click on the shield and select load unsafe script. It is not unsafe, just a warning that the website url is not secure.
