IRMS Newsletter

IRMS families - We are off to an amazing start of the school year!! Students are engaged in their academics and exploratory classes. This week we sent a group of Academy students off on a backpacking trip up to Lake Valhalla! Some of these students have never been backpacking so you can imagine the excitement Wednesday morning when they left. The goal of the trip is to help teach perseverance and leadership while raising self-efficacy. This is just one example of the many projects and "out of book" learning opportunities IRMS staff offers our students. As the year progresses, we are hoping to inform the community of what we do here. Please feel free to reach out if you have questions.

Water Conservation Project is almost complete!

Last year we started a partnership with Chelan county to create a water conservation demonstration site at IRMS. Students in the STEM classes worked on creating a design to take the area in the front of the building to create something that utilizes a minimal amount of water. This includes a walking path, outdoor classroom area, and raised planting beds to create a large site that our community members will be able to come and see how to conserve water on a large scale.

This week is Spirit Week!

Monday the 9th is Onesie/PJ day

Tuesday the 10th is Twin day

Wednesday the 11th is Dress like a teacher day

Thursday the 12th is Favorite Celebrity day

Friday the 13th is costume/spirit day

Monster Mash All School Dance:

The ASB is hosting a dance after school this Friday with the theme of "Monster Mash"!

When: Friday 10/13 - 3:15pm to 5:15pm

Where: The School Cafe

Cost: $5 or $3 with your ASB card - please bring cash

Pickup: Please pick your student up out front of the school @ 5:15pm

Students are welcome to wear school appropriate costumes to school that day as well as to the dance. Please no masks or weapons (even if they're fake)

"The Mountain Lion Way" is our school wide model of how we conduct business. All stakeholders understand the positive expectations we all follow so the school environment can be a positive learning experience. We have added MLW tickets this year to replace the coins for our token reward system. A student may be given a purple ticket for demonstrating that they have followed our positive expectations. On Fridays, we collect the tickets during lunch and do drawings for various prizes that students can claim. We love seeing the boxes full of purple tickets as this means our students are rocking it!!

We are excited to announce the formation of the new Icicle River Middle School Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA)! Our PTSA is dedicated to creating a strong partnership between the school, parents and greater community to benefit our students. Throughout the year we will offer opportunities to volunteer within the school to support our hardworking teachers and administration and bring parents inside the IRMS building where you can get to know the Mountain Lion Way. We also look forward to hosting community events and helping support the ASB with their activities. Together, we can positively impact our students’ education while strengthening the bonds that create the IRMS school community.

If you or an adult in your middle schoolers life are interested in volunteering for an upcoming field trip or other activity during the school year, please follow this link HERE to make sure you are on our approved volunteer list. It only takes a couple minutes to fill out, but do it now as it can take time to process. This does not automatically sign you up for a specific activity, it just gets you all ready for when there is something you are interested in volunteering for. This is a great way to get in on those fun middle school memories your student is making. We look forward to having you join us!
