Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year!

We know here has been a LOT of information and updates these past several weeks and we appreciate your patience and partnership as we've all been working together to reach this exciting moment - the start of our new school year!

Virtual learning in this new remote format is new for ALL of us - students, parents, and staff - and we know there will be bumps along the way. Patience, flexibility, and grace will be important for all of us as we venture into this new way of learning together. We are so excited to begin this new school year with you and can't wait to get started.

CHROMEBOOKS:

If you have not yet picked up a Chromebook for your student, please do so tomorrow (Wednesday) morning at Haggard any time after 8:00 am. Every student will need a Chromebook to log into their classes on the first day.

STUDENT SCHEDULES: Your child’s schedule should now be available in Parent Portal. We appreciate your patience with the later than normal schedule release date this year as we needed more time to create a schedule that considered the requests from families for either Face to Face or School@Home. To view your child’s schedule, you can log in to the Parent Portal here: https://parentportal.pisd.edu/Login.aspx.

CHROMEBOOK LOGIN: For returning students, their Chromebook login is the same username and password that was used last school year. If you are unable to login, please refer to the following links for help on student logins and passwords. ● If you are a NEW student to PISD your username would follow the firstname.lastname.# format. Ex. John Smith = john.smith.1

● The default password for NEW to PISD students is: xxxxxx!xyZ ( xxxxxx= student id number) Ex. 123456!xyZ

1ST DAYS OF SCHOOL: During the virtual learning time period of August 12th through September 4th, Haggard Middle School will follow the schedule(s) included below. The schedule shows the times students are to be engaged in Synchronous Learning and the times that students are to be engaged in Asynchronous learning.

• Synchronous: Learning or activities that happen at the same time in virtual space. Asynchronous: Learning or activities that can happen independently, without teacher supervision

STUDENT EMAIL: All students have been assigned a district email address. The email tile has been added to Webdesk and instructions are attached to access through Google classroom. Email will be subject to monitoring and filtering to ensure the safest environment possible while still enabling necessary communication related to instruction and learning.

PISD WEBDESK: It is essential that all students access all instruction through PISD’s webdesk: http://webdesk.pisd.edu/ This is how attendance will be accessed and students will be able to best participate in the learning process.

GOOGLE CLASSROOM CODES: Google Classroom Codes will be needed to access virtual instruction. Your teachers will share their Google Classroom Codes with you through your Webdesk. You can find your teachers' announcements using the My Backpack tile on your student Webdesk at http://webdesk.pisd.edu/

With school now underway and student schedules set, we will have Textbook and Materials Pick Up next week so our students can get the additional items they need for their classes. We will have textbooks and materials available for students on the following days:

Tuesday, August 18th

8:00 am - 5:00 pm All 8th Graders

Wednesday, August 19th

8:00 am - 5:00 pm All 7th Graders

Thursday, August 20th

8:00 am - 5:00 pm All 6th Graders

Families with students in multiple grades are welcome to come up on either student's day to collect materials. Just like Chromebook pick up, please have your student's name, grade level, and ID number clearly displayed in the front window of vehicle and we will place materials in the truck or back seat of your vehicle.

Free and Reduced Meal Applications:

Free and reduced meal applications are now available at www.schoolcafe.com/pisd. If you have never filled out a meal application, just click on “Create a New Account.” Student eligibility status from the 2019-2020 school year will roll over only for the first 30 operating days of school or until a new application has been processed. It is important that households complete an application for the 2020-2021 school year as soon as possible. Households should allow 10 business days for application processing.
