Searcy High School Students Named Rice Reps

Searcy High School has three students who are participating in a program that helps them better understand the benefits, importance, and economic impact that Arkansas’ number one crop provides worldwide. Mary Daniel, Mary Frances Oxner, and Maria Spearn (all seniors at Searcy High School) are Arkansas Rice Reps for the 2021 season. They are invited to attend four on-site experiences during the months of April through September in order to empower a new generation of young people who are passionate about agriculture, community service, and leadership within our state. Not only do these young people learn valuable life skills, but they also have the opportunity to earn college scholarships. The rice reps participate in cooking, social media, and video contests as well as community service and they earn points throughout the program in order to better qualify them for scholarship opportunities. When asked what their favorite aspect of the program was, they agreed they enjoyed cooking and learning new rice recipes as well as making new friends through the program. Daniel and Oxner are both daughters of rice farmers and agriculture has been a major part of their lives, and Spearn wanted to learn more about the crop. All three agree that the scholarship opportunities would be helpful as well. Congratulations to Mary, Mary Frances, and Maria for representing Searcy High School in this educational and unique program sponsored by The Arkansas Rice Federation.
