AFC Elementary Monthly Memo
September 2023
A Great Start
Students participated in Raider Way Days the second week of August where they practiced what it looks and sounds like to be RESPECTFUL, RESPONSIBLE, SAFE, and KIND in the hallway, cafeteria, playground, bathroom, and bus. They continue to earn Raider Riches for displaying these behaviors which they can spend in the Loot Lagoon - our school store.
Another way students are being recognized for showing "The Raider Way" is with Positive Office Post Cards (formally Positive Office Referrals). This year, these are being mailed home in the form of a post card. We are already mailed 37 Positive Post Cards this year!
As we look forward to the month of September, I would like to remind families of a few important details.
- Adult playground supervision does not begin until 8:00 AM. Please be sure your child is not on the playground (unattended) before that time.
- Please do your best to call as soon possible if there is a transportation change for your child (morning is preferred).
- If you haven't already, please contact Mrs. Wolf in the main office to schedule your Parent/Teacher Conference for October 18th or 19th.
5th/6th Grade Band & Choir
Also, please mark your calendars for our 5th/6th Band Instrument Tryout Night on September 12th from 4:00 - 7:00 at AFC Elementary School. A time slot will need to be scheduled with Ms. Daly.
Physical Education
- Kindergarten & 1st graders are working on understanding their spatial awareness and developing motor skills of running, skipping, marching, etc. through games like Simon Says, Duck Duck Goose and Barnyard Battleship - a class favorite!
- 2nd & 3rd graders are working on acquiring movement skills and understanding the concepts needed to engage in health enhancing activities using games like Rock/Paper/Scissors Tag, Battleship and Catch Me If You Can.
- 4th, 5th, and 6th graders are working on their football unit which involves catching, throwing, accuracy, understanding the game and most of all developing team building skills through physical games.
