Updates from the Ackerman Center for Holocaust Studies at The University of Texas at Dallas
Ongoing Partnership with the US Air Force Academy
This summer, the Ackerman Center again welcomed United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) cadets to campus as interns/scholars. From June 8- July 9, Doyle Gehring, Haley Hoffmeister, and Annalise Webber assisted in many of the Center’s special endeavors while also pursuing their own Holocaust-centered research projects.
Doyle, a rising junior and starting pitcher for the USAFA baseball team, began his time at UTD by helping with research for various initiatives including new course curricula as well as our new micro-certification program. Just as Doyle was returning to USAFA, Haley and Annalise arrived. Having recently traveled with a special group from the Academy to visit the camps in Poland, Haley, who will be a senior in the fall, not only assisted with some of our new projects, but was an integral part of the planning and implementation of our annual Holocaust teacher workshop. She, alongside Annalise, a rising junior, worked hard to help develop a teacher lesson plan entitled, Art as Resistance, in addition to helping produce the event. Both Haley and Annalise also carried on with Doyle’s research projects for the certification program, participated in our new Holocaust film blog discussion group, and other vital projects for the Center. The contribution of our USAFA cadets underscores the vitality of our partnership with the Academy and our ongoing commitment to joint scholarship.
